If you have the araucana or ameraucana color chart for eggs somefolks on here have stated their color matches, but even that is difficult.   My hen's eggs are greener than I expected, but they are also more saturated than my other colored egg layer.  A bluer blue is one of the things I will be looking for in the future.

Thanks, that was helpful...I like the egg shell comparison and the charts!

I'm thinking that Legbar eggs must be more of a matte finnish rather than a shinny smooth texture?

All my eggs are pretty much matte..... I think some of the very shiny ones have been coated.  One thing I have heard is that mineral oil on an egg will preserve it for several months if kept cool and dark...etc.  (I know that there is a thread on that here on BYC somewhere)

Don't know if I said it -- but there is a certain intensity to the color that my hen is laying.  That's a good thing IMO.  Several members on this forum have gotten several colors to match that egg color (or colour) chart BTW.

Can i just say that the cream legbars are really at the top of my list of favorite breeds.  my girls have been amazing layers. so consistent, good foragers, fun to look at, mellow. i think my only complaint is one of my roos legs are too short for my taste.  but really, these are my favorite birds out of the 15 or so breeds I have now.   go legbars!

I know it has been a while since I said I would post some pictures of my juveniles that I hatched from CindyLee's ebay eggs.  Well here they are...so glad I have 4 really good looking ones from Richard and some others on their way soon from Madamwlf.  These are just a crazy looking bunch.  These 6 all hatched from a batch of 8 eggs she shipped to me.  They hatched on Father's Day and these pictures were taken a few days ago, so they are roughly 12 weeks old in these pictures.

This is the first girl...I call her Robin...I don't think I have a picture of her straight on, but you can see how dark her breast is...You can see why I named her Robin.

This is the second girl.  She is nameless.

This is boy 1.

This is boy 2, you can see he is very dark, with a long tail for 12 weeks.  He is very friendly, and his beetle shine is gorgeous in the sun...too bad he looks nothing like he is supposed too.  :(

This is boy #3.  He is mostly black and white.

This is boy #4, as you can see he has more red and gold showing through and again has a long tail and funky crest.  He kinda looks like a devil in this pic, but he is really sweet too.

So this was an expensive little lesson for me.  I have talked to a few other people on Ebay that have hatched her eggs and they all claim that theirs look "correct."  But I really if people are not following any of these boards do they even know what "correct" means and who has the right version of correct anyway?  LOL  Regardless, none of these are anywhere near great.  The girls will go to my laying flock and I am not sure what will happen to the boys.  I really love them, but they can't be bred, so who knows.  A few of them are quite striking and might just get to hang around for eye candy.  The others might get to grow for a few more months and then go to Camp Kenmore.

Nameless looks quite nice to my beginner's eye. And Robin may be dark but is that as bad as the dreaded gold? Sincere question; I don't know. I still haven't figured out roos but the first and fourth ones look good to me. The third one can't be faulted for too much chestnut!

Good question omaeve.

I enter mine in Eggzy.net - my hen is broody right now---so she is setting and not laying.

They are something to look at.  I like the look of boy number 3 - he could turn out to be a pretty bird regardless of what he is, maybe someone else will think so - what a crest!  But they do all look off - boy number 1 is the closest to what he should look like I think as boy 4's type seems way off.  The females seem to be lacking the slight barred effect in the hackle and their faces don't seem to have enough red, but I think number 2 girl is gonna be a looker.  I still have yet to check out this Cindylee on ebay, maybe I will do so after this.  Thanks for posting it is fascinating to see and compare.  It helps in learning and recognizing what the breed should look like.
