We received 13 SLW as packing peanuts from Ideal, I am going to keep two and put the rest in the freezer.  They are 4 months old now.

I was apparently way behind the rest of you who ordered in 2012. This is my first venture into raising chickens, I really just wanted a good sz laying flock, all girls. I received 10 Buff Leghorns, 10 California Whites (maybe Ideal 236? only one has one spot...), and my sister added to my order 10 Mallard ducks-Straight Run. They arrived on May 5th and only one duck was lost-smashed by the others:( A couple of the chicks seemed weak, but picked right up when we gave them the sugar water as Ideal recommended! Our poultry will all be 12 weeks old this week. I can't wait for them to start laying!!

Life as a chicken person started in May of 2012. So far we have 9 Buff Leghorns, 9 California Whites, and 7 Mallard Ducks. Along with various other pets and humans:)  ~Naomi

I just got this year's order of chicks from Ideal.  45 broilers, 10 pullets.  All arrived alive and healthy.  They shipped 47 broilers.

I've been ordering from Ideal for about 7 years.  The worst case I can remember is that 2 arrived dead.

Service has always been excellent.

Ideal Poultry are great......Last summer i ordered an assortment of Cornish Bantams and received and Assortment of Cochins Bantams.  I called them and told them of the mix up they apologized and told me that those cochins were free, 2 days later i received the original order they told me that the words cornish and cochins looked similar it was their mistake.  I ordered another assortment of Dutch Bantams on the 16th and received them on the 17th, now that's fast.

I ordered from Ideal last month for the April 17th hatch.  I ordered 5 Birchen Bantam Cochins, 5 Buff Bantam Cochins, 5 Red Bantam Cochins, 5 Gold Laced Bantam Cochins, and 5 Mottled Bantam Cochins.  I guess the chicks hatched a day early, so they were immediately shipped at 8:35 PM and arrived at my local post office ALL THE WAY OVER HERE IN HAWAII today(the 18th).  I kept in touch with Julie on my order, and she was the sweetest!  There was one loss, but that's good considering they had to fly over the Pacific Ocean.  I've ordered from McMurray twice with more losses.  I used Nutri-Drench on my chicks the minute I got them home(I even kept a small bottle in my car incase I had to take the chicks to work with me).  One drop by mouth, plus I put a few drops in their little waterer.  They're all doing sooo great!  I recommend IDEAL and NUTRI-DRENCH.

The box of chicks:

Red Cochin bantams:

Buff Cochin bantams:

Mottled Cochin bantams:

Gold-Laced Cochin bantams (lost one in shipping):

Birchen Cochin bantams:

Sleepy chicks 13 hours after their arrival:

I realized in my excitement, I ordered the wrong color silkies today.  I wanted blue, and instead ordered gray.  Has anyone had luck with getting Ideal to change an order?  They aren't due to ship out until the 29th, as the next hatch day is the 24th, so at least I have some time to try and get it straightened out.

Boo, my chicks won't be ready until the 15th now. Kinda bummed it says they have available for the 24th and can't complete my order. sad.png

Boo that sucks!  I know how depressing it is to have to wait even longer than the original plan!  I originally ordered chicks through our local farm store.  I only wanted 3 bantam cochins, because we can't have more than 2 chickens in our area(we already have a female bantam cochin(my avatar), hoping that at least one of the three turns out to be a female).  I ordered in February, and the owner said the chicks would come in March.  I waited all March long and received no call.  When I e-mailed the owner to see if he had a date, he had no idea who I was, and didn't remember having an order for 3 cochins.  2 days later he told me he remembered and the order was placed.  I decided to order the chicks myself instead, and put up with raising 25... just to keep one.  To avoid freezing weather, I had to wait until April 17!  OH THE TORTURE OF HAVING TO WAIT!!!!   NOW I WANT TO KEEP THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!!  I might have to be a criminal and keep way more than 2....stupid chicken law.  On a brighter note, our council woman is trying to increase it to seven, and allow one rooster per household!!!  YAY!!!
