anyone tried a sweeter heater instead of brooder bulb arrangement?

I would love to hear. I bought an 11x30 one today - I hope its great!

Is it heating as expected without the chicks in it?

Ok I am in LOVE with the sweeter heater! The chicks love it too! I am still adjusting the height to get the temp right. Had it about 6-8 inches up and it was 101. So I raised it and waiting for the temp to stabilize. The chicks hang out underneath of it and stretch out and sleep. They are so cute!

I will post pics soon. Can't post them from my phone. Still hatching too - so hopefully I will have more than 3 chicks in the am!

One word of advice though - plug it in and run it in a well ventilated room for a day or so before putting chicks in. As the plastic heats for the first time - it stinks. Definately getting less and less the longer it is on, but it stinks at first.

I have the Sweeter Heater in my coop...works great! Just remember that it is radient heat & the chicks have to be directly underneath to benefit. There are options to hang or wall mount (brackets) ....mine is hanging (S hooks & chain). Safer than bulbs in my opinion.

Startingover is right....it does put out a major "burnt plastic" stink the first few days, then it's over.

OmGGGG man yes it stinks I called them immediately thought something was wrong with it like burning wires or something......ewwwwwwww stinky
She explained it like the sealant and new plastic gives off a smell till they set tight or something on that order, anyway I ran it over night, still smells but not as bad.
My chics are coming Mar 23rd, so will plug it in again a day or 2 before.
While I wait I'll keep smell watch LOL;)

Love the Sweeter heater idea. I use ceramic bulbs and love that the chicks know day and night right from the beginning. Quietest groups of chicks I've ever raised.

This got me to thinking that I have a long warming tray that you sit dishes on to keep the food warm. Holes drilled in each end and chains attached would make this an awesome "sweeter heater".

I'm trying it!!

I see this is an old thread but I am going to reply anyway. I have had the sweeter heater for my large coop for 4 to 5 years. I have it hanging by chains from the ceiling with hooks to the heater, it can be adjusted up or down. I have a flock of around 25 birds, mostly heavy breeds but a few bantams. Some of the hens just love being directly under the sweeter heater and others prefer to sit outside of its direct low radiant heat. Very cheap to use does not ever get hot. In the warm months I remove it and store it in my basement. When I purchased it I thought it was expensive but it has lasted very well. Highly recommend it. I may try to get a good picture in the evening when they go to roost and post it.
