My mother and I were aproached by a local off duty sheriff the other day. He warned us that there has been an un-specified number of confirmed cases of rabies in the local coyote packs.  The sheriffs office has not gone public with this as of yet, as they do not want to start a panic. But we were asked to quietly give the heads up to local farmers.

But please be aware, watch your self, and your livestock. There has been a few reports of daytime run ins with this growing pack. There is talk of a big hunt being put together locally here. And has been sudgested that if you have the proper amount of property, and see a coyote during the day, acting abnormally, to protect yourself and your livestock.

I know the pack that I have running here is quite large in numbers. I have personally counted 23 run through my property and my mothers proplerty in a short amount of time. Sounds unbelievable doesnt it? I wish! And I am just about certain that the pack that runs through my property will also run through renarts, as we are less than 3 miles apart.

Just wanted to put a quiet heads up about whats going on locally with our wild canine counterparts.

Ok now back to our regular programing.

I had a friend in Kirkland yesterday call me because she had a couple of coyotes just sitting in her backyard (one side unfenced and open to a greenbelt). She has seen many coyotes in the past, but always in the mornngs or evenings on their way to some place. She found it odd that these two were just sitting in her yard like a couple of pet dogs at 1 in the afternoon. She actually thought they might be dogs and was about to chase them off when her husband and daughter told her they were coyotes and they had been sitting there for some time already.

Its a Incu Kit and its at the incubator warehouse. There are 3 sizes to choose from, now saying that Ive never used them so don't know if they work or not.  I was thinking of doing a frig incubator but just thought it was to big for me and I was afraid to mess with the freon stuff.

Oh my cabinet incubator has the same stuff that the GQF has, that's were I got all the parts. Oh I also have a PID unit to take care of the temp in it also. Its a plug and go incubator LOVR IT

4312 - Good luck with that freezer-bator project! Ithink broody posted some awesome photos of one she made.

The freon would scare me too - I like the cabinet incubator.

Uh yea, he's just gonna have to look doofie cause I'm not messin with them and I can't afford to have a vet come out! He's not hurting anyone and it actually gives him character so he'll have to live that way as long as he's here!

I agree I would not mess with his scur unless it becomes a problem.

As for bucks wanting to "play". Since I needed to keep the neck muscles built up for show. I put a wood spool in the pen. I taught my bucks that when they were on the spool we could "play". If they came at me while on the ground I would take their feet out from under them and pin them to the ground until they stopped struggling. This was very effective for mine. The reason I did this was that some times I would need somebody to care for the goats while we were gone. I also educated them about the "HOT SHOT"  and told the helpers to carry it anytime they needed to go in the pen. One little push of the button and they boyz would back off because they knew what went along with that buzzing sound.

I was not mean to these guys but I also was not about to take a chance of somebody getting hurt so I taught my bucks some basic manners.

Yep, that's totally acceptable in my book!!! I don't know if you can tell by the pics, but he's a BIG boy!! The size of a Shetland!!  He has already drug me around as I was trying to put him on the stand to do his feet, which btw, is NOT big enough for him and his fat neck is too big for the stanchion !!!  And with my hip!!  Yea, I was cussing like the sailor I is!!  LOL!!  So, brilliant me tied him to our once existing flag pole,  ( Terry had to take part of it down cause it bent in the wind)   and I played ring around the rosie with him to do his feet!!  somad.gif

But, at that moment that was the closest thing I could tie him too where he couldn't drag me too far!!  Just wait till the hip is better tho!!

Nice pics,

Yes that would be called a scur. It is the result of a disbudding job that was slightly less than perfect.

Yessss, I know..... I didn't do the job myself, I am his third owner.  And thanks Robin, I think it does too!!  That is one job I am not looking forward too, and I am researching different disbudding irons, I want one that works well and quick! I will probably have to pay a lot more money but, I think it's worth it, if you can do an efficient job in short order. It's bad enough it has to be done, but, after having to rescue several horned goats from down the street, when they were trapped in the fence, it's a necessary evil!

DANG IT JIM ! ! !   just a few months ago I sold a very good iron for too cheap. Let me look I may still have the smaller one. You could have it you would just have to buy the tip for big goats. Also I would really like share info with you about burning and PLEASE don't use one of those STUPID BOXES to put the kid in.

Ok that's cool!! and I don't have a box. My friend uses one but that's cause she runs 60 Boer does and she's by herself!

That needle procedure looks far less invasive than the hand surgery. I sure hope it works for you! Do you have to sleep with a hand splint? My mom was an O.T. and one of her areas of expertise was in hand and finger rehab, and she had all sorts of hand splints - some she made, others she adjusted. There was one that looked particularly painful, and Mom was always mad when she had a patient that was so neglected that they needed to use it - mostly people who have been in a coma for a very, very long time, curled up in fetal position for months. Their fingers had to be straightened a wee bit at a time, and there were little screws that had to be adjusted every few days, straightening the fingers a little bit at a time. Looked painful, like a torture rack for fingers. Mom would get so mad because with just a little therapy and flexing starting shortly after whatever the accident was that caused the coma, the patient could be spared a lot of pain and damage once they are out of the coma.

No, it not related to arthritis but it is most common in the northern Europe regions and more so  in the Irish and Scottish from what I've read about it. Naturally I am Irish, Scottish, English and Polish (God bless my Mom). My dad had a slight case, we didn't know what it was way back then and it also manifested itself when he was in his 60's.

Mine has been going on now for about 8 years and was speeding up as to its growth.

No hand splints needed. It is amazing.

Wow Mike!!  Are you sure we aren't related?? That is exactly my heritage?? Well if I understand you, was your dad the Scott, English and Irish and you mom Pole??  That's weird..... your not originally from MI are you???

My dad is Irish and English, and Mom was a Pole.

What's about that combination??  LOL!!
