4cats3kids1hubby2many,

Have you looked into joist hangers?  They make framing SO MUCH EASIER!!  You can get them at Home Depot in the 'fastener' aisle.  I also highly recommend that if you're going to try it yourself that you use screws (galvanized, please, or they'll rust) so if you make a mistake you can fix it much easier than if you used nails.  Get two drills - one with the appropriate bit on it to pre-drill the hole and one with a driver bit on it to screw in the screws.  What else...  Ummm...  Measure twice, cut once?  Spend the extra $$ on pressure treated wood and have your structure last ages longer than if you had saved.  Um...  Yeah.  That's all I got in the morning.

If I wasn't so far away, I'd come teach you - or do it for you while you made me food - but just the thought of driving to Omak makes my butt hurt and my eyes all gooey.

Yes, actually I have it all printed out...well not really a "blueprint"...but I used Google Sketch up to draw it out.  Very simple design...all I need is someone to do the stud work...I can finish. I just don't know how to. I was really trying (hard) not to pay someone to do the work. I have a very nice pool that we are getting rid of...all the upgrades including chlorine maker and sand filter (above ground) thought we might try to trade for work ...or I am selling it to help pay for coop. Ask your friend if he may be interested in trade and/or what he would charge to build for me?  I may have to break down and just pay someone. I am still reading on how to do though...I would really like to learn. I will be building other coops...so would be a good skill to learn the basics.

How big is this coop you're planning?  Framing is not that difficult, it's the measuring and cutting that causes 99% of the problems.

CL, nice tractor!!!! We made one last year with the 4-H kids as a group project using PVC. Nice and lightweight and CHEAP!!!! I use it now to grow out the teenagers in and want to make another.

KMoran, I have an 09 Chevy Traverse and absolutely love it and can highly recommend it. We have 3 tween/teens and they fit in the 3rd row just fine.

Theresa, Congrats on the sporty new car!!!!!

Thanks for understanding.  Did not implode (or explode) because of your generosity.  Good thing, too.  The house is getting staged for sale.

Never mind me.  I really have no idea what I'm talking about, I just like pretending that I do.

More fun yesterday:

See the visitor ?

He snuck up the driveway, and Einstein came in for his shotgun as he was droolin.gif for some pheasant on the grill, so I had to smack.gif him & take the gun away....he has gotten several spanks in the last 2 days !!!  somad.gif  He has been a naughty boy, but after seeing the tracter he built, I am going easier on him...........gig.gif

The visitor decided he liked the skovie girlz..........then he wanted very much to be a Cuckoo Marans, except Milton & Anthony were not having any of it.

So the visitor went up the hill & crused behind all the pens until he came to the Turkey pasture where the Buckeye Cock is temporaily exiled, and the Buck really wanted this beautiful chicken...(he is feeling the need to sow his seeds ) and so did the courtship dance all the way around the fence, for the visitor's veiwing pleasure.

Then the visitor few up & landed on the central net support !

How about peanuts aren't nuts (legumes) and bananas are actually an herb.  I'm a sucker for random and mostly useless facts.

The nail gun scares the wadding out of me too...especially when using simpson ties...(can a nail richotte (sp?) and go through yer eye or something ?????????  hide.gif

I will stick to screws, regardless of the thumb issues !!
