Oh, quick question -- Anyone know of a Vet in the Marysville area that removes Spurs. Being I have my son (who is City boy) and it looks like we have at least (2) Roo's... esp for the Rhode Island to have the spurs removed.  I read it's easier to do when they are little -- I just didnt see anything about how old, they at least need to be for a Vet visit.

COCKEREL QUESTIONS

So, my 5.5 week old straight run chicks are mostly showing their sex.  What do y'all do with extra cockerels?  Last time we raised one and gave him to a friend who was butchering his own to add to his freezer.  We're a little closer to these fellas.  Roscoe-aka-Tinkerbell was brooded by his surrogate BO moms (plural not accidental!) so we didn't get that close to him.  These we've brooded ourselves and the girls are a bit more attached.

We have these cockerels (from a McMurray mix):

Golden-penciled Hamburg

Blue (?) Andalusian--probably this breed, probably cockerel

EE--possibly male

Sultan--possibly male, but no comb development at nearly 6 weeks.  We might keep this one.  What a sweety!

And these bantams:

1, possibly 2 blue cochin bantams

1, possibly 2 partridge Wyandotte bantams

1 quail Antwerp bantam

The Wyandottes and the quail antwerp are really mean to our Sultan. I will probably keep these two breeds separate as they are so much smaller, but we will probably only keep the quail antwerp, who is a sweety in the vein of Dudley Dursley.

We are not against keeping one or two, but not this many.  Finding homes?  Does anybody caponize anymore?   Not knowing roo anatomy, does this actually sterilize them?  Do they lose some of their aggressiveness?  Nevermind?

Never mind me.  I really have no idea what I'm talking about, I just like pretending that I do.

Oh I would LOVE to have ur Blue Cochin Bantam -- as I have a Blue Frizzle Bantam possibly Pullet... Tho my mother doesn't care for the "Blue" -- but I really like the color =)  We just have a few Bantams already, not sure if the idea of "another" Bantam on top of being a Roo would be a grounds to getting a Cochin....  We have (2) already.. possibly couple more, hard to say since they were "guaranteed pullets".. just not acting like "pullets"   *sigh*

We moved up here last month from the city in California. We as in myself, son, & Parents (Family thing).... They were from here & I was born here.. so it feels like home ;)  So since we moved to a house with 5 acres we have started our first flock =)  Wound up with quite a few so far, but some are for "show" hopefully for my son & maybe myself.  My mother also got into getting a couple "rare" types so needless to say our only having a couple egg layers, didnt end up being a couple...hahahaha

So far we have managed to get:

(2) Rhode Island Red

(3) Barred Rock

(2) Golden-Laced Wyandottes

(1) Iowa Blue

(1) Silver Lakenvelder (show?)

(1) Russian Orloff

(2) Buff Orpington

(2) Blue Sumatra (but my Sumatra passed away =(  )  (show?)

(3) d'Uccle Bantam (Porcelain,Golden Neck & a White Mille Fleur) (show)<-- my mothers babies

(2) Silver Duckwing Old English Bantam (show, pet)

(2) Black Old English Bantam (I think..we have no idea really...lol) (show)

(4) Frizzle Bantam (Black,Blue,Buff,White) (show,pet)

We do have maybe planned in future to breed a couple to keep our flock lines going =)

Since we just got the Frizzle Bantams on the 19th. Quick question to anyone who by chance knows or has had a Blue Frizzle... My lil "BlueBelle" -Pullet - Bleu -Rooster has white wing feathers that came in.. Is there a reason for them to be White instead of the "blue" that they are deemed to be?  Just curious. My Frizzle I had yrs ago was Black, so the color wasnt off beat from what he was, so far like my lil Blue Golfball is....She/He is just the cutest lil tiny thing... BlueBelle aka: Lil Golfball

Thank you bunches =)

Glad you joined :o)
