We did have a few friends in for beverages and snacks on Friday, thank you to those who were able to visit for a few minutes.  I know that traveling, unloading, cooping in, setting up can take a LOT out of folks.  But it was nice just to have a few minutes to sit and shoot the breeze in person.  Good to see CR and Diane, Jbear, CF, Pettec, Pips&Peeps, (we nodded in passing) wink.png and more!  I even met the adorable Quincy!

It was such a beautiful day on Saturday that we felt compelled to tear ourselves away from the barns for a few hours on Saturday and drove the short distance to Multnomah Falls.  It was spectacular!  I was so glad we were able to see it this time.

We also drove to Hood River, but only because we needed to shop for a container to bring my gf's purchase home in.  She bought a HUGE black Cochin capon that did not sell at auction because he was being sold at a high price as a pet only.  Giant, friendly boy who prefers people to other chickens, my friend had her heart stolen away by a boy who has limited purpose, but oh - you should see this guy.  What a cutie.  I guess we city girls are suckers for a pretty face.

She also got her DH's permission to buy a nice metal piece from CR's booth and has it hanging on her gate already.  She is very pleased!

CF delivered my Castle Delight Serama eggs to me and since I was there and knew I'd still have room in the incubator, I decided to purchase 12 assorted color silkie eggs.  Don't know what I'm going to do with them if they hatch, but I had a weak moment. (*See above remark about city girls.)  So I'll be setting 26 eggs today.

Chicks that I hatched last week are still thriving at my friends' home (same friend who was with me this weekend.)  We're hoping for a lot of girls out of the 6, but at this point I'm a little worried.  Only one of the 5 wheaten Marans has developed the wispy tail feathers.  It would be a drag if we only ended up with 1 girl out of 6, but I guess it's better than none!  We'll see.  I'm sure she'll be taking more photos of them this week.

All in all it was a lovely weekend and wonderful to see everyone who attended!

PS - Hope all goes well with you tomorrow Julie - and please don't feel the need to apologize for anything.  I completely understand all you've been going through.

A couple of pics of the falls I shot with my camera phone.  My girlfriend is deathly afraid of heights so I was very proud of her for going up the trail with me and actually crossing the pedestrian bridge going over the falls.  It is a long way down and she was very brave.  That bridge was built in 1914 - almost 100 years ago!  Can you imagine?

Thanks SadieSue!

OH my Gosh!!!  Those are wonderful pics!!!  You said your friend took those right?? Or did you??   Those are gorgeous!!!  I guess I'm gonna have to take some time when I'm going through the area again and stop and check it out!!

Good to see you too!!  Went up to Seattle, and got the injection, the Dr was awesome and she did listen to me, and injected where I asked her to. She said it may take a few days to really kick in, but at this point, we are at about a 25 - 30 % reduction in pain!! Yee haw!!  It's not perfect, but it is better!!   Bad news, have to have at least a partial hip replacement! Yea, they can't go in a scrap the bone spur out as I had hoped!!  Dang it Jim!!  LOL!!  So, I will be going back up for a Surgical consult, but, I will definitely be going out to do this, the VA is backed up over a year, for that procedure!!!  But, hey, I should be good as new!!  th.gif

I am so glad everyone had a good time and so did I, just really tired!!  Got some good sleep last night tho!!!  wee.gif

Ok, I should REALLY  not get in a hurry when reading posts, or else I would have seen that you took these from your phone!!  Darn good camera for a phone!!  Great job!!

Great idea also.  We live on 6 acres, I am bound to find something that will work.  Think I will add that idea into the main coop.

But I'd like to say hello from Marysville area =)   I just last nite in fact started a Community Page on FB for Chicken Lovers of Washington State https://www.facebook.com/ChickenLoversofWashingtonState (if interested in taking a peek)-- Someone asked me if I had joined this thread, well here I am =)  Glad to meet you all.  =)

We moved up here last month from the city in California. We as in myself, son, & Parents (Family thing).... They were from here & I was born here.. so it feels like home ;)  So since we moved to a house with 5 acres we have started our first flock =)  Wound up with quite a few so far, but some are for "show" hopefully for my son & maybe myself.  My mother also got into getting a couple "rare" types so needless to say our only having a couple egg layers, didnt end up being a couple...hahahaha

So far we have managed to get:

(2) Rhode Island Red

(3) Barred Rock

(2) Golden-Laced Wyandottes

(1) Iowa Blue

(1) Silver Lakenvelder (show?)

(1) Russian Orloff

(2) Buff Orpington

(2) Blue Sumatra (but my Sumatra passed away =(  )  (show?)

(3) d'Uccle Bantam (Porcelain,Golden Neck & a White Mille Fleur) (show)<-- my mothers babies

(2) Silver Duckwing Old English Bantam (show, pet)

(2) Black Old English Bantam (I think..we have no idea really...lol) (show)

(4) Frizzle Bantam (Black,Blue,Buff,White) (show,pet)

We do have maybe planned in future to breed a couple to keep our flock lines going =)

Since we just got the Frizzle Bantams on the 19th. Quick question to anyone who by chance knows or has had a Blue Frizzle... My lil "BlueBelle" -Pullet - Bleu -Rooster has white wing feathers that came in.. Is there a reason for them to be White instead of the "blue" that they are deemed to be?  Just curious. My Frizzle I had yrs ago was Black, so the color wasnt off beat from what he was, so far like my lil Blue Golfball is....She/He is just the cutest lil tiny thing... BlueBelle aka: Lil Golfball

Thank you bunches =)

Do males exhibit their behavior fairly early? such as say fighting with other birds.. I know we have (2) for sure, but a couple others have been fighting with other birds too. The (2) for sure known ones are separated but in each bunch there is still always (1) other bird that fights with them... or those other birds fight with other ones. So far the ones that we are pretty sure are pullets don't have the Roo Behavior. -- most were supposed to be "guaranteed" pullets... but lately, I'm not thinking that so much.  They are about 1 week 5 days old..so almost 2 weeks old.  We're really wondering exactly how many Roo's we wound up with. -- They have loads of space to stretch, run, exercise so it's not a..being crowded issue...

Thanks bunches
