Think about it.  I can probably keep one, certainly not 2.  But we need a bit more time for the idea to sink into the girls' heads.  They can probably go outside at the end of this week, weather permitting (they are forever at the cool end of the brooder.)  Anyway, you can think about it, too and pm me.  Hopefully you live nearby.  One suspected roo ("Stormy") is darker, another more silver ("Flyer"). The properly blue one is probably a pullet.

So far the ones that we are pretty sure are pullets don't have the Roo Behavior. -- most were supposed to be "guaranteed" pullets... but lately, I'm not thinking that so much.  They are about 1 week 5 days old..so almost 2 weeks old.  We're really wondering exactly how many Roo's we wound up with. -- They have loads of space to stretch, run, exercise so it's not a..being crowded issue...

Thanks bunches

Just behavior-wise, my BO pullets exhibited behavior like this.  In and of itself it is not a sign of sex, just of dominance.  That said, in my current batch of straight-run chicks, it is indeed the roos that are doing this.

Never mind me.  I really have no idea what I'm talking about, I just like pretending that I do.

I tried to talk my mother into your Blue Cochin Bantam... but she's just not having the idea of another Bantam or another bird at the moment *sniffle*.... Think Cochin wise, she'd be looking more for the Standard.  I tried...

We had 3 sets I believe that were SR... Barred Rock,Rhode Island & d'Uccles... we have a Barred Roo, Rhode Island Roo (which we're still debating on getting rid of, since they tend to be more aggressive..we're hoping the "hand raising" helps with that - we didnt want a Rhode Roo).. d'Uccle's so far are the ones that start the fights if u believe that.  Little things & they try to take on the bigger birds. One will start on a bird, then our known Roo's run over & intercept the fights. The Barred Rock just runs over & pushes his chest against the lil d'uccle to make him/her quit. & sometimes has the back up of the one female or possibly Roo.... on the other side that d'Uccle who we named Scrapper starts & the Rhode will run over, intercept but uses his feet...... Maybe the d'Uccles are Roo's as well... We thought maybe they were just fighting other Roo's ... since dont see why a Male would wanna fight a female... only another Male.... hmmm.. Most the other ones as I said dont start nothing - they just do their thing being Pullets... it's just the certain ones... d'Uccles def start it... the one always goes after the Lakenvelder or Sumatra...the other d'Uccle tends to go after the little d'Uccle on that side (but we know that one is Pullet)... (3) total d'Uccles..... maybe they just Bratty Birds as I tell my mother.... she complained about my lil Old English who apparently is the Boss bird with her lil bunch... but my mother has (3) so mine doesnt even compare to that....hahahahaha

Yes.  Just a heat lamp.  I usually use smaller bulbs as they are indoors.

If it isn't crested, tufted, frizzled or silkied...it's boring!

Hi , I joined this site to get info from time to time. I have 2 large Blackstar roosters that are brothers in which  i want to breed with my Buff Orpington hens which are also quite large. Do you think that would make a cross for egg laying and meat?    Thanks, Tim.  I am also from spokane

I'm new here as well... The Orpington is a Dual purpose bird as it is... Very good Egg Layer (Good 3/wk)  &  Meat...Stars are excellent layers 5/week... so I personally dont think it would change much...but I could be wrong - im not a chicken guru...lol

*Edit*--- I just looked up the Star - It as well is a Dual purpose bird: Size: Medium (6-7 lbs) & the Orpington: Size: Heavy (7-8 lbs)

Thanks everyone. We are home now. I didnt realize just how exhausted I am until we got home. I still have yet to upload pictures from my camera, but once we get settled and rested I will post some. Chloe is being very good, tiptoeing around to not wake Emily. Its really cute. Im very sore where the epidural was placed, and have a good sized bruise from it. Everyone here is doing well so far, my DH is being a huge help. I will fill you all in more once Im rested better. But for now one pic to hold you over.
