At first it sounded really exciting, she was putting together her breeding flocks and that's always a lot of fun to help someone with, but then it started taking 2 days to get any response and when it came, it didn't answer any question I put to her, had no information as to her setup, and she wouldn't commit to a farm visit. After a week of these delays, I finally sent her an email explaining that this wasn't how I do business and I find these repeated delays very disrespectful to my time an energies. End of communication and Flake Filed her, so if she emails again (and they nearly always do), I can minimize any contact or time put in.

I sometimes wish we had a database of these idiots so we'd all be forewarned - so and so arrives hours late, sucks up hours of your time but won't commit to buying birds, brings kids who chases your birds and upsets your rooster, wears street shoes to your farm despite being told to wear appropriate shoes, waffles when its time to pay for their birds, tries to make deals that are outrageous, skips out (I had one do this Sunday) without paying, ignores proper care of the chicks then wants you to replace them for free, etc.

We all do this somewhat informally, of course, and I will warn some local folks about the above gal to give them fair warning. Most of them are less patient than I am, so I doubt they'll put up with that for long.

How do you all deal with these time sink flakes?

I dont let people come to my house, did it for years with the goats and wont do it with the birds. Its called Bio security and I tell them that. As for flakes I still get it. had a woman who wanted all my Splash Orps waited almost 2 weeks for her than she said oh just 3 and give me a roo and two pullets. No thats not what she got she got what I pulled out of the box at 5 am.

The guy who said I'll pay less I said no and dont ask me again and waits both of our time.. He tried 3 times I didnt answer him...

I pruned her way back last fall as SF recommended, and as far as the fragrance, it is out of this world !!!!!!!

This beauty has blooms that look alot like a dogwood, as  far as the rest (shade, etc) I will let the expert (SF) tell you all that, as I have had my Lyda just 1 year now.

hahah each D'Uccle does that, it's pretty funny... Stretching out the neck to see.... Porsha tends to run around plotting her escape... scanning every inch... the other 2 just start Birdie Bar fights... they may look cute & innocent being lil and all, but deep down they're terrors

I also want to have a Roo for each breed so that I get pure eggs to hatch. My question is does the roo have to stay with his girls 100% of the time? I know you dont want more then 1 roo in the same pen but I would like all my girls in the same pen and then removing them and putting them in with the Roo when I want  fertile hatching eggs. Is this a good idea or do I need to keep them together at all the time?  I have heard that if you separate them the roo will beat up on the hens or kill them? Ideally I want around 25 hens of 3 - 4 breeds. Thanks

Please remember that I am a very new beginner to...but here is some of the information that I have gleaned and others will fill in the blanks  - or you already have an answer by now.....

.....I have been told that you can keep them separated if you want....for example...show hens and the roo is getting a bit too rough. Once they breed they are fertile for over a week (others will pipe in with better info). but you can also just keep the roo in the runs.  my runs all have roos in with them. Also, you can have more than 1 roo in some situations. Somehwere on here someone posted a REALLY-REALLY good info on how the "pecking order" works with roos....as long as you have enough hens. One is top roo, next 1 or 2 down are his "guards" and I believe the next is the lowest and usually picked on.

Frizzle Question to I forgot who it was that breeds & raises Frizzles.....

On the Frizzles that wind up smooth, do they or can they still be classified as a Frizzle? -- If they breed do they produce Frizzles as well... or just Smooth.... curious how that Frizzle Gene works with the "non" Frizzled ones...

Thanks Bunches =)

Still thinking our Buff Frizzle will end up Smooth & not Frizzled..

Cool thanks for all the info... I think I am just gonna keep each breed in their own run. 5 hens and one Roo that way I can get pure eggs for hatching.  :o)  I showed my plans to the husband tonight and he thinks its an awesome idea.  Thanks everyone for the help. I have learned so much from yall and very thankful for all the help I get.
