I've been reading a lot about rehabilitating chickens.  Many sites recommend putting one or two calm chickens in with the injured one to keep her company.  Neither my EE nor my RIR fit that description!  roll.png  This past week, I've been playing chicken and have had to be with her all the time.  I walk away and she goes nuts.  I have to sit with her until she goes to sleep, and good heaven, that bird wakes up early!

This morning, as I was woken up a LOT earlier than I wanted to be, I got to thinking, now that she's going to spend more time in her hospital cage and less time in her chair, maybe I should get some chicks to put in with her.  I can have up to 6 chickens and right now I only have 3.  Good idea?  Bad idea?  Would I add 1?  2? or 3?  Or none at all?

I'm thinking chicks because chicks have a much softer temperment than chickens their current age (7 weeks).  I don't want to get anything that would be mean to my lil girl.

My Light Brahma's temperment has always been to sit back and watch what's going on around her.  She never gets involved in the ruckus the other two do.  She's very easy going.

I saw on another thread a while back that someone had a sick chicken, and made a "STUFFED" chicken companion that worked very well. Plus, it was a nice family project apparently. It obviously wasn't totally chicken looking, but enough hat the sick chicken was comforted. A stuffed sock, with some sewn on bits the right colour perhaps! This particular chicken was sitting, roosting like, and the other chicken was sitting next to it. They moved it often so the sick chicken would follow it.

Might be safer than a live chicken of unknown temperament!

Did you know that he was a spokesman for Baldwin Pianos and when he toured he had his own piano with him. The contract for hauling it, setting it up, etc was awarded to the various national moving companies. Mayflower had it for a while, then United and so on. It was always interesting to talk to the driver hauling it.

I loved watching him play....so very serious, then would stop playing & tell a joke !   lau.gif

I bet he needed a semi- to haul all his wardrobe around too !

The hackles look pointed but in the next picture you will see them clearer

I lifted them up midway up her neck. She has a tricky pattern...

Her wings are held down a bit by my daughter, but there are no shiney feathers, and no color... Sooo VF please please tell me this really is a girl.. lolfl.gif

Looks girl to me .. but Illia is the one who's opinion you really need :)

Girl. She looks a lot like my girl, Foxglove.

Foxglove

She's an EE. Lays pretty light pink eggs =)

eta - here is an image of her around 8 weeks. sorry - cannot figure out how to get the picture to show up here when it's already in the album =) there are some boys with the same coloring in that same picture album if you want to see the difference at that age.

And here is a link to the thread sexing them early. The majority was correct =)

That's right, for those of you who don't go star-gazing - The moon hurts. lol.png Without a moon filtering lens that subtracts 25% of the actual light the moon is giving off, looking through the lens at a full or quarter or even crescent moon is very dangerous, as it is exceedingly bright, not to mention tampering with the focus to get it right down to the gritty gorgeous details of craters, valleys, and all. Well, I finally got to do it - Tonight just before it got too bright and late, I was able to track down the moon with my laser sight (new batteries) and view just the very edge of it so it didn't hurt too much, and man! Is it amazing to see the moon, in person, in such enormous blown-up detail. It is incredible. Plus, I was out a bit early, so I could actually differ the dark side of the moon with the sky. It was eerie, really. Seeing a giant gray globe moving quite quickly through space.

Anyway, just had to share with excitement. The lunar eclipse for us will be this June 5th, hopefully we'll have a nice clear sky that night, and the moon will be darkened out enough, I'll be very excited to see a full detail surface of the moon, soaked in rich scarlet to deep blood red coloration. love.gif

How awesome !

How is bugging going over there ?

We have been getting hordes of all sorts of moths here.some I do not recall seeing before.

Some look so much like tree bark or leaves.how cool their camo is !

Thought about catching some in a jar for you !!   lau.gif  Then I figure you have probably seen them already !

We had T-storms here yesterday also..............funny, just as an egg customer stopped by, I asked her what she was doing for the week end, gardening ?

She replied that yes, she was getting into her garden as finally we have some nice weather...and all of a sudden (without warning big_smile.png )

KREEEEEEEEEEEE-AAAAAAAAAAAAACK RUMBLE.....................

And we both just stood there laughing.
