I chose S&P when I first got chickens. I went to the Bothell Feed Center, and they had samples of feed showing what was inside the bag. I loved the fact that I could see what the ingredients were.

The only downsize to this is that I tend to have leftover "dust" of the vitamins and DE they include in the feed. I usually mix this in hot oatmeal. I've heard others will bake theirs into a cake - those are some spoiled chickens! big_smile.png

Interesting.  I like the idea of using the leftover 'dust' and adding it to other foods to give them as treats.  What a great idea. THANKS

Oh my heavens we've had quite an interesting night and morning. My youngest son (2) has Hand Foot and Mouth disease! ICK!! Poor boy is miserable and the only thing keeping him happy is playing games on my phone. Glad for the phone at least! I hope my other 2 don't get this, it's miserable!

getting ready to go to the local college to meet with advisor to figure out classes.  while sitting here watching the turkeys and the cat interact with each other through the wire of the cage.  I am sure the cat is thinking "mmmmmmm tasty turkey treats"  and the turkeys are probably like "Soo are you some type of a turkey?"  it is actually pretty comical.  the chicks are peeping in the brooder and it is just nice to hear the little sounds.

well time to go figure out a direction to go for my education.  Too bad I can't get a degree in chicken raising.  lol  Actually I am finally following my dream of early childhood education.  After many bumps in the way and trying to please others with my education (I got talked into office administration after high school)  I am finally doing what I want.

enjoy the day everyone

Speaking of cats and poultry...what age are my chickens pretty safe from a fairly uninterested cat? So far the cat just sits on the porch and watches them. He puts his ears back, highly annoyed, if any of them come near him. Some of them are actually quite bold and will run up to the cat squaking and clucking like they're yelling at the cat, it's pretty hilarious! I have already been letting the cat out when they free-range and he never goes near them. Should I consider them old enough, at 10 weeks, that the cat isn't a threat anymore?

Wow - I just heard yesterday that my cousin in Spokane had to be treated for that along with her husband, 2 yr. old daughter and her 2 new toddler and baby foster children.  I hadn't heard any actual occurrences of it happening and now 2 in two days!

Good luck to you - hope you can keep it contained!

LOL  I was wondering if I could do  the same thing  (chicken raising)  I was out watching my flock free range yesterday. I noticed when they scratched in the dirt some start with their  Right  foot first and some start with their left foot first.idunno.gif  I was wondering if I could get a Government Grant to study whether there was RIGHT footed and LEFT footed chickens  hu.gif  gig.gif                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   My DD went to  college to teach elementary school. when she started school there were lots of jobs out there. by the time she was done with school, everybody was laying off teachers!  she is teaching Kindergarten at a private daycare. She hates it ! NO benefits, no raises , half the time she can't even get a break.  She spends alot of her own $$$ for her class. The parents love her and are real happy with what their kids are learning! My DD is thinking of going into office administration. Maybe in the medical  field.  She would love to work for Children's Hospital

Too many chickens, too little time!

Futures milk came in and she is already milking about 3 lbs!! Don't know if that's awesome, but, I think it is!! Fidelity was kind of a butt, but, we have her turned around and haven't weighted her milk yet. We will be disbudding and banding this week.

Take care of yourself Cheri!!
