UGH. Just had a horrible experience.  We had the chickens in our garden and my nephew was out with them.  Not sure how, but he dropped the gate on his fave chicken.  My husband is with the chicken now, but pretty sure its dying.

My nephew is DEVASTATED.  He started hitting himself and crying and screaming.  It was his favorite chicken AND he feels responsible.

It is so sad, cuz this is his first loss.

There were a bunch of us out there and all were just tearing up at my poor nephews reaction.

Anyway, I am not sure what the plan is but just putting this out there  and seeing if anyone has a 8-10 week old SLW pullet?  Or know of someone or place to get one.  I am not even sure if we are going that route, but would like to at least be prepared.

We are working outside all weekend so if anyone wants to PM me, that would be great.

EDITED: I wrote a follow up below, but maybe chicken was in shock...she is sitting up now.  Waiting to see.

How old is your nephew?   Obviously he cared for her very much. To rush out for a replacement diminishes his feelings for her .  I think he needs to grieve over her loss and forgive himself for the accident.  When and if, he wants another like her, I'm sure he'll tell you. Accidents are  a part of life we don't outgrow but, we do get wiser from them.

My nephew is 7 and was the one who was requesting another chicken.

HOWEVER....I was farily certain the chicken died in my arms. As everyone that was there was.  Went limp and eyes rolled back. I thought her eyes clouded over but guess they just rolled back.  DH took her and put her in a crate.  He later told me she was breathing but didn't think she would make it, as she was just laying their limp.  He says he was conflicted what to do (wait and see or put her out of her misery). Well he went back later to check and she is sitting up.  We have her secluded with water.  We will see.....she still could have internal injuries or something.

It was very traumatic for all of us adults.  Everyone thought she died right then.  I don't know...maybe shock?

Like I said....we will see.

DH's Mom got a Spider Monkey when we were kids.

Some guy came in the bar with it (His Dad owned the bar) and he won the Monkey in a crap game or some weird story.

Anyways my Mom thought the monkey was so cute, so his Mom gave it to my Mom & it went all downhill from there.

The Monkey stinks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!     sickbyc.gif

And Mom had to fill the kitchen sink to let the Monkey bathe daily & one day it flipped out & went screaming and jumping from curtain rod to refrigertaoe & pooped all over & kept screaming.

I am now traumatized by Monkeys.....but not black shiney birds.  big_smile.png

He should not be drinking at all.

He is but 18 years old, correct ?

Really need to find out where he is getting the booze...usually kids drinking run in bands, so maybe a friend is getting the booze ?

Does he have boozy friends ?

Taking a moment to log on to share photos of our VelvettFog World Coop Tour 2012 so far!  Dave and DW arrived shortly after 9 AM.  After they backed the trailer into the driveway - (and BTW, what a beautiful trailer!) the three of us quickly got to work unloading all the pieces needed for the build.  DH showed about about 30 minutes later to help unload and has been out there with Dave all day.

These folks are incredibly generous with their time and talent.  I am truly amazed.

The carefully thought out pieces, some already partially assembled but all pre-cut.  That man is a planner!

Getting organized with a little help from my DH and Gryffin the GR.  (I'm not sure Gryffin was really helping at that point.  He was more interested in having DH throw his toy for him.)

46th in an occasional series

Model-boat builders are drawn to the challenges that come with attention to detail.

Lee Stewart's 1/12th-scale Edwardian river launch, the Topaz, "is steam-powered just like the original." It is propane-fired, with a young captain at the helm (a doll ordered online) and an engine and boiler built in England.

The passengers have a tea set and an actual copy of a newspaper of the day, The Dispatch, in miniature, along with a box of cigars and a copy of "Gulliver's Travels."

There's also a sink and a loo.

Stewart's large hands barely fit in the space above the boiler where tiny knobs have to be turned as the boat is prepared for sailing. He is retired from the microcomputer business, so this passion is a perfect fit.

One of his models is of a Japanese whaling ship, and a fellow member of the Northwest R/C Ship Modelers has threatened to make a Greenpeace boat to attack it.

But while motoring the Topaz at South Lake Union Park in Seattle, the unintentional hazards of boating came into play when a sailboat with no rudder or radio controls clipped the stern, sending the aft cover, the British flag and a brass pole into the pond.

That ended the Topaz's day.

COOL ! Thanks Greg !
