yup, it's because the males grow faster bigger, and everyone wants them!

Today we're opting for the shorter walk!

When I get home I'm priming the new VF coop.  I love my little Silkies but I'm ready to get them out of the house into their own place so have got to get that coop complete!  Then I need to figure out where I'm going to house those Seramas...  idunno.gif

If you live that way...are you a chicken outlaw? lau.gif  I thought you could only have 3?  Just asking because my friend in U.P. (who also lives right by Chambers and is there almost every day) just got 5 and she's breaking statutes. Oh well, her 5 are quiet and her coop is low key ;)

Yes, I am an outlaw.  High fences, shared eggs with neighbors and no crowing roosters so far has kept me out of chicken jail.  As soon as they crow, the baby roos go.  I try to keep my girls (somewhat quiet) and entertained with treats and free ranging in the backyard.  The rule here is 12 chickens per acre.  In Tacoma which is 5 minutes away there is no limit to the chickens you can have as long as there's no roosters.  Seems kind of ridiculous to be restricted by the 12 per acre rule as long as we're keeping clean and quiet.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only chicken outlaw in U.P... we just try to keep it on the down low... shhh...hide.gif

Well, it started raining.....then Walmart called and DH's new survelance cam has arrived at the store for pick up.

So I sent him off with seeds to mail, and a shopping list.

he has to go to the PO, then Walmart, then the feed store, the Franz bakery for "animal bread" and then my parents' to rescue 3 unwanted cucumber plants from my dad, who has no more room for the little sweeties.

So here I am~~~~~~~~~~

Gonna go clean poop trays & the cornball tracter and I'll be back I guess...darn rain !  sad.png

Please keep the rain down there CL!!!! Don't want any more!!! Gotta finish moving bark mulch. Blech.

Another note on the Corid/Amprollium discussion, there is a vaccination for Coccidiosis. I know McMurray offer's it for chicks. If you do the vaccine, DO NOT use medicated chick feed as it will cancel out the vaccine. So do one or the other but not both. And I agree with CL. Sulmet did NOTHING when we had a bad case in one batch of chicks last spring. They kept dying off on it. As soon as we started Corid, saw a turn around in the rest of the chicks immediately. Luckily, that was the only bad outbreak we ever had. Still makes me mad thinking about it! Hatched 15 out of 18 eggs shipped from PA!! Was so stoked about that hatch rate! Ended up losing 10 chicks to it when they were about 6-8 wks old? Can't remember their exact age. ANYWAY.

CL, glad you are enjoying the strawberries. We've got oodles of them. And just picked 8 cups of raspberries last night with much much more coming. The blueberry bushes are loaded also. Can't wait for them to ripen. They are my favorite! Looked over the apple trees last night also and was happy to see quite a few on them. More than last year anyway! Planted a large row of grapes last year, hoping to get a few off of them this year as well, but the dear seem to favor them.....Time to get out the canning supplies!

Zgoatlady, re: Cream Legbars......ok, didn't realize Anniemom AND Cflaming (or Flaming Chicken!!!) both had them as well, and Cflaming is right around the corner from me.....need to move my Orpingtons on and maybe get some next spring. Maybe....if I have room! They are next on my list for trying for sure though. Love that Crele coloring and being able to sex them at hatch AND colored eggs! Those of you that have them, what color are your eggs? Can we see pics? More blue or more green?

Well, I just zipped through all 90 posts I was behind on.

I love the pics of the DH and his turkey friends, that is just to cute for words.

Every ones coop look great purchased or not but of course free is always great.

Speaking of free, I think I have mentioned along time ago that about 90% of my chickens have been free. Well a lady that brought me 5 chickens a few months ago (of which she received from a friend that no longer wanted chickens and this lady had no room) called me this morning. Asked if I had room to do her a favor.....Another friend of hers no longer wanted chickens (I don't understand this) and she had 6 that hatched last spring. So of course I said yes I have room! She brought over a Barred rock, Cuckoo Marran, 2 RIR, and what looks like 2 Speckled Sussex (which I have been wanting).

This week I will be processing some old hens (that have stopped laying) for soup. Then this weekend I will be doing an extension on my coop, as the coffee stand coop deal fell through.

Man I can't believe how late you guys can all stay up.

Proud Momma of 5 wonderful children. Support from the greatest husband at my side. Kept company by a Great Dane, Mastiff and a Dane/Lab/Shepherd mix. Now on our adventure to buy a new Farm.

I used a fine tooth blade but my saw was not adjustable speed so it went to fast and would bounce it to splitting or breaking when I tried....

Carbide tipped can slam into the stuff & smash it to smithereens.

A fine tooth (untipped) works good.

DH uses masking tape along the cut on both sides of the cut to prevent splitting.

He uses a little hand-held thingy that has about a 4" circular blade on it....cannot remember what it is called.....................he.gif Works good on sheet rock too...like for cutting out electrical outlet holes...maybe Greg knows what the little saw is called ?

Yes, I know to check for dead batteries.  The mouse was flashing  low battery,  I changed batts putting them in exactly like the original set was positioned.  Nothing.  I tried a second set of batts (expiration date 2016)  still nothing.  I have changed batteries for this cordless mouse many times.  But I think it just gave up the ghost.  The off/on switch expired also - or maybe THAT was the reason for failure.  If I can't bring the mouse back to life,  I will eventually get another cordless one, Free spirits aren't meant to be chained.

Yeah Mikey ya hear dat cheee beee talkin bout you! ! !

I was trying to be helpful no slam intended. I use to repair tv's and radios waayyyyyyyyyy back when they were tube only and solid state wasn't. Most of you probably never saw such a thing. Anyway, when I was called out to a home to repair their tv because it wouldn't come on (yes tv repairmen made house calls back then) many times I found the power cord unplugged from the wall. I found it was best to look into the back of the tv for a minute or  two, plug the tv back in (when no one was looking) and voila, I was a hero. There was no flat charge back then for a call-out and I never charged for their error. (I was 18 then and my world was much nicer way back when).

So, that said, I appologize diva if I ruffled your feathers.bow.gif

Mikey I was just teasin ya and I hope she wasn't ruffled. BTW my dad also did what was called radio and TV repair. My job after school was to dismantle old units, test and label the parts.

wow over 600 posts behind...  nice reading though.  I have been busy busy getting my new house in order.  got the kitchen painted and the dining room primered.  even got the living room painted.   whew...  living room is done done done.. alll i have left to do in it is move my furniture in...  What is going to be My sewing room/library/office room still needs packed and moved out and repainted.  Landlady is still packing her stuff. which isn't a big deal.  We all have lots to do..  We currently rent from her and are moving into a different house of hers and then she moves in here.    Still getting the wiring done in the kitchen and back porch so I can have a water heater and electric stove and dryer.  Need to finish painting the dining room and then the first floor is complete..  LOL  still have to get the wood cook stove and radiator heater out so I can finish painting the wall behind them and install the new water heater.  Yup it is a big project but I loving this house..

Then off to the upstairs.  Luckily that is pretty simple.  finish doing the plaster in kids room.  and get curtain rods and curtains hung up.    AFter that can finish the outside of fixing and enlarging the current chicken pen and coop.   Finally figured out how many birds I have that are going....  13 chickens, 8 ducks and maybe the 3 turkeys.  Although hubby's daughter thinks that the turkeys are the cutest and thinks we are mean in saying they are to be dinner. lol...

Right now have 31 chicks of varying ages in pens in house.  I might get a few of them but they are the landlady's.

When we do get moved in I get the landlady's incubator  I just need to get a turner for it and a few more egg trays.  Landlady loves the luck I seem to have in hatching chickens.

It has definately been a busy few days.  Hubby's work schedule changed which is both good and bad.  He now only works mon-wed nights and is off the rest of the week...  it is nice having him home more but it is a loss of about 400 a month.  this week is crazy schedule with the holiday.  mon, tues, and thurs night.  with holiday pay for the 4th.  woohoo!!!!!

My group: The girls: 3 speckled sussex, 4 barred rock,. The Boys:  2 white chicks, 3 rouen ducks.   We also have 1 scottish fold cat,  1 1/2 persian 1 red heeler dog.  I'm a full time college student.  2 kids, 3 stepkids, 8 step grankids.  that's all of the bunch I think.

I think MikeyB and Chicken Rustler are the  ONLY  ones that are old enough to remember radio's & TV's with tubes in them. I'm sure NOT old enough to remember themhide.gif  I remember my older sister telling me about going to Safeway with our Dad and there was a machine there you could test tubes for free!!!thumbsup.gif   Also I remember there was a TV & Radio repair shop down the street with a sign out front that said " Come on in and we will remove your shorts and check your tubes"   hu.gif hide.gif
