Anyone have some spare pullets that can be outside?
My friends in Yakutat Alaska would love to get some pullets for a subsistence flock in the village.
I have donated the few pullets I have and offered to fly them there.
If anyone is willing to donate a few pullets we could meet up either a day or 2 before I fly or fly day at seatac airport?
Anything from mixed mutts to pures are good! Just need to be female and either going to lay or currently laying... (no old biddies please as they need the eggs to eat or hatch to increase the flock)
They currently have 1 rooster and 1 hen.

I just saw on the noon news that they have a big fire in the Chenowith Rim. Well imagine that. It burns every year.  The news report caused me to remember and tell DW about some of the times I helped fight that fire.  old.gif   And then I figured out what is wrong with me. See I was at a spot where the fire flared and to save us and our fire truck we were bombed with a load of that red stuff. Yes you know the stuff. OK are ready for it it's RETARDANT ! ! ! !  And now it's out ya all know whats wong wiff mee ! ! !  idunno.gif

What cuties! And a lovely assortment of colors too.  Makes me want to try silkies.  No it doesn't. Maybe it does.  I can't decide.  Might need another coop.

It is easy to avoid chicken math when you buy chicks once a year at the feed store.  By the time your brooder is empty, the feed stores are done too.  But when you figure out how to turn little oblong food balls (eggs) into the cutest fluffiest, cheepiest bundles of love, it is all over!  My daughter would plead to let the chickens be Mommies.  I gave in one year and that's when it struck me. So kids, neighbors, friends apparently are all co contributers.

well I never made it to get materials for the grower pen had to take stepson to store so he could get his groceries...  I wish he would figure out the bus system  of how to get a taxi.  makes it real hard to shop for clothes with him right over my shoulder.  Today is another day so getting the materials today..  as soon as hubby goes to work...  I got my two kiddos to help with it.  They love doing the stapling with the fence staples.  Very big help for me....  Let's see 31 chicks...  need to make it pretty big right?  lol...  Actually it will be good size but it is for them to grow up and get put in the big pen...  lol

My group: The girls: 3 speckled sussex, 4 barred rock,. The Boys:  2 white chicks, 3 rouen ducks.   We also have 1 scottish fold cat,  1 1/2 persian 1 red heeler dog.  I'm a full time college student.  2 kids, 3 stepkids, 8 step grankids.  that's all of the bunch I think.

This was an assortment, I hatched out two buff, one porcelain who will be going to my enabler, two lavender, two from Paint eggs (one looks like it might actually be paint but not sure), and four BBS. Sadly, the one white egg she sent was not viable...I really wanted a white pullet!

Here they are while still hatching out in the bator, they would respond to our voices and come over to visit. So personable!

And here they are in the brooder. We're going to get individual shots soon. I've got a few with obvious vaulted skulls.

Cute chicks!  But I'd get them off that newspaper asap...it's way too slick, and you're likely to end up with some spraddle leg to deal with...

Say Carol, I may have some Silkies that will need new homes in a few months. wink.png

Gah! I had read somewhere that they should be on newspaper the first couple days to *avoid* spraddle leg. Rats! Thanks Cloverleaf.

I do have soft white shavings that I brooded all my other chicks on.
