As to the lead thing; I made my own toy soldiers by casting molten lead. I have also cast my own weights for fishing and cast my own ammo projectiles (bullets). I started the casting lead thing when I was a bout 8 yo. Heck I even gathered mercury and spent many hours playing with it.

This is the reason, I think, that I decided to get chickens. After all it's easier to believe this then to think I'm just crazy.

wee.gifMY BABIES ARE HERE!!!!celebrate.gif

All 21 Chicks from Cackle Hatchery arrived today in perfect health! It has been an interesting morning...My sons birthday is today. Got the call at 8:20am the chicks were at the PO ready to be picked up, get my son and my friends daughter (I'm the babysitter) ready to go, walk out the door to leave and one of my cows is in the front yard!he.gif Some how the pasture gate was open and the cow was munching on the grass under the fruit trees. Took 15 minutes to get both cows (the other one came out while I was calling the first one back to the pasture with the grain can) back in the pasture. Not sure how long the gate was open, but thank goodness they didn't leave the yard. Our house is at the front of the property and the pasture at the back. But we are all home now safe and sound and cheeping away!

YAY!!! My BLRW hen had her first chick hatch!!!! Soooo darn cute! They are mutt babies but since she went broodu for a second time this year I let her hatch them. Dad is a huge BR and I'm sure some of the red sex-links added to the clutch! Hubby is not too happy about letting them hatch as I just got 2 cochins & 1 welsumer about 3wks ago to add to the other 12 birds. hmm.png. I will probably be rehoming some of my initial flock to make room. There are 2 red sex-link hens (1yr), 1 RIR (1yr), and 1 of the BLRW (2yrs) who is very light colored and not super personable that I can probably bear to get rid of. I think if I do rehome them (maybe even if I don't) my BR roo will prob not be sticking around as he is aggressive with the wrong beings (the ones who feed him)!

I'm thinking mail order since I'm in Kitsap, but I will be out in Buckley tomorrow.

We can tell CR is absent here, or he would have answered that the best place for chicken leg bands, is on their legs.  lau.gif
