So, I got the coop finished tonight with the help of my DH. When we came in we found that we lost another chick. That's 2 in one week. All seemed healthy and active when we went out at 7:30 tonight, we came in at 9:45 and he was dead, and seemed to have been for a while. Is there any way to figure out if there is an illness going around the brooder?

So what it under a heat lamp? Sometime they will lay under it and streach out and the others will lay on top of it and smother it.
How old are they again and any signs of them being sick during the day? I'll look in my med book and see if I can find anything for you.

He was not under the heat lamp, he was on the same side as the last one who died. They are 4 weeks this coming Monday. They all seem fine. They scratch around in the brooder, they all eat and drink, I have Save-A-Chick electrolytes and probiotics in the water, and it gets changed every day. They are not on medicated chick starter, and I know it's hard to tell if they have coccidia, but all the poops look normal, no blood and not runny. Both birds that died had full crops. Maybe I should go back to the medicated feed, I really don't want any more chicks to die.

Oh I so would put them back onto medicated chick starter, Im one to keep our chicks on some kind of medicated starter or grower till they are around 3 month old. Or laying.
