Those stupid jumping spiders that will attack you are the worst. Beady eyes staring at you and they lift those hairy front legs up and threaten you, then *bam!* they jump on you.

Last time we were at Mom's, one jumped on me after I walked out the back door. I think everyone in the neighborhood must have thought someone was being murdered with how I screamed.

I remember as a kid taking those black plastic spider rings and putting them like on the door handle to the screen door, so when someone reached to open it they screamed. My brothers and I used to do that to each other all the time. After we did it to my Mom, she took all of them away from us.

I feel the same way! I DO NOT like spiders! I don't bother them if they are outside, unless they jump on me, then I'm not responsible for my reactions! But if they come inside...smack.gif Unless my mom is over. She won't let me kill them, she says it's bad luck to kill a spider. I say it's bad luck to have them in the house!

Ugh.  I hear ya.  I used to have spider nightmares all the time.  I would wake up and still see them crawling all over my bed...then they just stopped, about 10 years ago or so... sickbyc.gif

I have always had happy dreams about spiders, lol. Especially when I worked for a business that sold and bred tarantulas for the pet trade. I would dream of cute, fuzzy, brightly colored spiders. Now centipedes are another story. I've had a couple of really bad dreams about the big Scolopendra 'pedes. They're the sort of critters that you should be afraid of. I made sure to get rid of all of the centipedes that I owned before I had my son. I still have some tarantulas, and my son thinks they are cool.

highfive.gif   yesss.gif   While I have not (yet) used dog houses I have had thoughts of it. Dog kennels make awesome chicken runs. A few 2x4's (they really don't measure 2x4) some tin and some chicken wire you will have a nice instant coop/run.

And yes the corner of grab it and run is an awesome place to shop at night.

When I was a kid yeah just last week. I would have night mares that included a spider. It was most common when I was sick and it was always the same. In the dream/nightmare I would always be in my bed. There was a BIG spider up in the corner near the ceiling and the walls were all moving closer together forcing me and said spider closer and closer. Then for some reason I would always wake before the spider got much closer than about 2' from my face.   idunno.gif  To this day I do still rarely have that same dream/nightmare. As for spiders I am not real fond of them but as long as they aren't in my house or work space I will leave them. Bats is my bad thing. Now ya wanna see Da Fat Kid FREAK OUT ! ! ! ! Me in close proximity with bats not a pretty sight and things are gonna get destroyed by the time I can escape or kill said huge vicious critter. They seek me out and I have witnesses.

I also can't help with the processing. I have to meditate to take care of the few we do, though bad birds make it easy.

Thanks, I was talking to my kids about what to do with the roosters and they said they are ok with eating chickens....just not OUR chickens because they are pets.  Understandable.  But they are ok with me giving them to someone else who may or may not process them.  So I guess we will go that route.

Ok...is it weird that I am terrified of spiders in general. Mainly the ones with bodies between 1/8 inch or larger. EXCEPT......Tarantulas. idunno.gif I see them differently and I don't know why.

I am crazy, I know it. th.gif

question~ since I am a new chicken owner, less than a month...

Do you all let your chickens free range in the rain? Do they have a problem with being wet? I mean I always leave the cage open so they can go in whenever they want, but are there any issues with letting them freerange in the wet? Do they catch colds or anything like that?
