Tetra Tints??

What you have is undoubtedly a commercial broiler, commonly called the CX or CornishCross, etc. It is bred to mature quickly and butchered at 8-9 weeks. Yes, it is quite common for them to die if not processed at the proper age.

Absolutely right, you got Cornish X. Process them quickly before they die on you! They will be delicious, though.

We have actual Tetra Tints, and I like them OK as layers. They are great layers of "tinted" large eggs. They are flighty like white Leghorns, though, and I think they are ugly--they have red leakage in their feathers and always look dirty to me.

The tinted eggs look lovely in the cartons, however, so I forgive them their looks.

Since the parent stock Tetra uses is a production red type fowl and a production Leghorn type fowl, the look you describe is the result, of course, for this hybrid.

Oh, I wasn't saying I didn't get what I paid for. I was just saying that, to me, Tetra Tints are ugly birds and I constantly think they've been pooped on. Great layers, fine flock members.. but hit with the ugly stick.

Tetra is a European Poultry Corporation, and a rather large one, with world wide marketing of their commercial poultry. These are not "breeds" at all. They are composites of heavily researched hybrids designed to be top layers, hardy layers, etc.

The Tint is just one of Babolna Tetra Ltd. products.

I recently came across this thread. I have read this thread and also all of the sources cited. From what I understand the variations of the Tetra's have been produced for both brown egg layers and white egg layers as well as dual purpose exceptional egg layers as well as for meat and the different Tetras have different coloration's depending on the variety of Tetras. I rarely hear of them so I am guessing that in the US they aren't that popular. I don't believe they are sexed by color when they hatch but didn't really find any information on that. Just wondering how the posters liked the birds since now a few years have past since this thread was started. Just curious.
