Oldest Cornish Cross?

I saved a CX this year. I never had one before and was told they are fat lazy birds that won't move 10 feet to get a drink. I also read that they have heart problems and can break legs due to their weight. This little chicken is the coolest little thing. It apparently love me because if follows me ALL over the place. It even comes running. So much for lazy chickens. I'm so happy to hear that they can live a couple years. I have mine on a limited chick starter diet and it free ranges all day long so it gets plenty of excersise. My mom calls it fatty but I wanted to name it fluffy so when people call it fat I can say its not fat its fluffy. I would also like to see pictures of this "living, breathing, heating pad."

well chicks grow fast and i never did get a pic that night and now all my chicks are 9 weeks old and roosting in the rafters of their coop, but fat patty did start laying eggs since then, there not huge eggs but I've been getting one every other day so i have three in the bator, the rooster is a 3 generation production red so hopefully I'll hatch out some decent colored broilers.

I'm trying to raise a female Cornish X that I pulled out of the brooder at 2 weeks; she was so small she couldn't get near the food and was weak and hardly able to walk. With lots of TLC, she recovered. She follows me around and is really affectionate. She's now 10 weeks old and the only CX I have left.
I feed her between 1/2 and 3/4 cup of grower a day. She seems really hungry and doesn't seem to be getting overweight yet. She does get lots of exercise and forages for bugs, too. I'm hoping to keep her healthy and let her live as long as she can.

How much starter/grower do you feed yours? Any advice for me? Many thanks!

I know this is an old posting, but just found it. I was mocked on here for keeping them, but I did anyway. I sold a couple as adults and one was laying. The one I kept is 15 months old now. But as far as I know she has not laid eggs likely due to environment as in me moving a lot before settling down.

Don't worry about what people say. Do what YOU want to do with YOUR chickens.

My girls lived to be 4 years old.

They're your chickens, you can do as you wish with them. Many keep meaties past their butcher stage and let them live as long as they can. Nothing wrong with it, so long as the person understands the risks involved with those birds and do not expect them to be just like other chickens. Sometimes though, they do just fine. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about it. Ever.

I'm so glad I found this thread I know it's old but if you guys see this know you have made me very relieved that cornish x can have a very good quality of life and be happy. I found my little fella on the road and was so terrified to learn he would have a short life you have all made my day. I'm going to work hard to ensure he stays happy and healthy for as long as possible
