I ordered 6 chicks..Express Mail, They shipped this past Monday, I called later on Tues because they didn't arrive and MPC does not send you any conf. or tracking that they ship..which is kind of wierd..I mean they are precious cargo, anyway I paid for Express so they would get here (Upstate NY) the next day..The guy at MPC said..:"Prob WED" Ok...whatever
They arrived Wed..I picked them up..All were alive. (No heat pack or anything..It was in the 30's
5 out of 6 were the size of thimbles..literally very tiny little runts..Adorable little angels..
Got them snug and cozy in their nice brooder with their siblings of the same age that I hatched..Yep FUN , FUN...I then had the "pleasure" of waching them die slowly one by one......
I tried everything in my power to save them,  I think were too small to survive the trip..
Thank you MPC for this wonderful heartwarming exprerience..Oh I do have one left..(The one that wasn't a runt)
Do I sound bitter? Yeah..Cause I'm gonna go now and watch the 5th one as she goes to heaven...
Sorry but I would rather stick sharp needles in my eye than ordering chicks online from one of these places and put them thru hell..I feel very guilty I did this..Never again!

I am so sorry to hear of your experience.   Can you post and let us know what MPC does for you, not that anything would make you forget this ....

Thank You! Feels good to vent hmm It will feel realllly good when I call MPC and let em know what I think of them wink It does nothing to bring back those innocent babes tho.. I feel responsible..If I had not ordered them, they would not have gone thru this...I will be a die-hard hatcher from now on..I just wanted a few different breeds I didn't hatch. My 17 hatched chicks are Fat and healthy..Thank goodness..Didn't lose a single one. Thanks for your kind words!

The reason it costs so much is because they drop ship from other hatcherys which means paying more for shipping and for the chicks than getting them from the hatchery that sells them.

Chickens - (Naked Necks, Easter Eggers, Ameraucanas, D'uccles, and others.)
Call Ducks - (Blue Bibbeds, Greys, Chocolates, Whites, Silvers, and Butterscotches.)

Guineas - (Pearl Greys and Royal Purples.)

I didn't care about the cost one bit.. I only went with MPC because they were one of the only ones that offer "Express shipping" which is supposed to be one day.... I felt it would be less stress on the chicks..I would have spent 70.00 if it meant they wouldn't have gone thru hell...I do think they could have sprung for a heat pack..

Hi Guys..
I told you I would post a follow up after talking with them (MPC)..As I and you already know they are just the middle man, so I really wasn't expecting too much other than to blast someone..But the the girl I spoke with Shannon, was so nice..I explained what happened, she did not get defensive and was horrified at the fact that A) It took longer than 1 day to ship B) The Hatchery (she did not name) DID not put a heat pack in the box! that is probably what cause their demise..and also the fact that I pretty much got 5 runts..
She asked if I called within 48 hours..I told her No, i was too busy trying to save lives and it didn't matter about the money I could give a poop..anyway, She is going to find out who is responsible for my order and see what can be done so this does not happen again..I told her to please see that someone answers for this..I don't want any more chicks or anything..She then asked about Patsy, and we talked for quite a while and she gave me some very helpful tips on how to help her..
She was very kind and understanding and feels horrible..So how could I blast her when really i guess it's not their fault..I really need to blame the hatchery.
She also wants me to update her on Patsy's condition via email..
and P.S. I have the little one in the Bator at 95.0 I am giving her Sav-A-Chick liquid .. and hard boiled egg yolk..which she is eating! it's the only thing I can get her to eat..Thanks Shannon!
She is starting to just perk up a bit...I am cautiously optimistic..She is soooo tiny and bony and eyes are barely open..she can barely stand but she she just won't give up...
She will be one special chicken if she makes it..smile

I didn't realize that they were not the providers of the actual chickens.  I would like to find out how to contact and deal directly with a hatchery.  Any ideas?  I'm so sorry for your horrible situation and hope the little pulls thru.

Meyer's Hatchery has a website you can call or order through. You can search this site for other reviews on other hatcheries like Ideal.

wife to 1, mom to many. 1 kid, 1 baby, 1 pup and a few chicks (3 BLRW, 2 Columbian Wyandottes, 2 White Rocks and 2 Production Reds).

I don't know much about my pet chicken, but if you order from Ideal Poultry you only have to buy 25 dollars worth of poultry. (I was able to get 12 barred rocks pullets for just over $25.)

Yes, I run a zoo consisting of 3 zookeepers (My parents and I), some monkeys (My brothers), 12 barred rock hens, and 2 snakes.

Ideal Poultry will let you get only 10, but they have a high mortality rate (sad ) MPC has nice chicks great breeds, but the shipping is high.
Meyer Hatchery is the same company as MPC but they are cheaper, and the shipping is much better.
Randell Burkey hatchery has a small flock special and will let you get as few as 5, but I never ordered from them so IDK on the quality.

I have a Chicken illness Flow chart but it is a PDF file, so if you PM your email address then I will email it to.
