Unfortunately, I think Phoebe needs a name change. I'll post a picture later; I can't find a camera anywhere. "She" has changes so much in the last week those pictures could be of a different chicken. She's a beautiful black/white; she's very flashy (I should have known then). About a week ago (7 weeks old) her comb turned bright red and has three distinct bumps on her comb. She also has thick legs. Thank goodness no crowing yet.

You could change her name to Phoenix.

You think it's a girl? I would hope so, but the gold coming in on the wings makes me think boy. s/he is pretty anyways tho. tongue Mom was your standard brown EE, dad was a blue/gold cochin.

If that is a rooster, I'll eat my hat! Seriously, it looks like a hen in every way, shape and form. I don't think all the color rules apply once you start adding in other breeds to the mix, such as your Cochin. I could be wrong about that, but I'm still sure it's a pullet.

I agree that it's a pullet. The tail, the overall feathering. I don't think that the color coming in on the wings and some on the chest is the same gold/orange that comes in on some roos. She looks beautiful!!

I don't think that orange is the brick red that you see in roos, either. I agree, beautiful pullet. That is probably one of the prettiest I've ever seen. I hope she's really a girl. And maybe next year you can send me some of her eggs!!!

Oh, and I have 2 EE girls who are about 7 weeks old and their combs are pinking up already, too. smile

DON'T SELL THE BEAUTIFUL BLUE PULLET!!!

Yes, she has red on the shoulders, but it's not really red, closer to salmon (which=pullet), and it's on her lower wing, not on her shoulder (if it's on the shoulder, then it's a rooster).  It's also a very small patch.  One of my pullets on page 5 ("Pearl") has some salmon on her wing too.

But anyway, 1st and 2nd pics are pullets.  3rd pic looks kinda rooish.  Can you get a better profile pic?

I will later today. I still think the blue one looks rooish, but I think it's because my picture doesn't show the comb very well. It's definitely pretty pink for eight weeks old, pinker than my 15+ week old olive eggers. smile We shall see. I was thinking of keeping it even if it IS a roo, since I love his daddy - daddy is a very good and nice roo.

See? By the 'rules' of sexing EE's/pea combed birds, we have a good middle row coming in pink there. I still think it will end up a roo. sadsad  But I may keep it even if it is, unless someone near me needs a pretty roo. My roo makes interesting colored babies. Also got a pic of bird #3 who looks pullety for now I think.  Of course, this is an EE X straight combed bird, so there may be some waffle room there. Right? LOL.

I am definitely not an expert, but I still think she's a girl. I have 2 cockerels who are younger and their combs are red red. I have 1 girls whose comb is bigger and pink already, too. smile
