So were building are re building a barn and were putting stalls in, I know in a year or two im going to be buying holstein to show. My question is what size of a stall would it need?

I say the bigger the better they poop a lot and the live gross in my opinion. Not near as clean as a pig. Probably still have too clean out the stall x2 a day am/pm. Our cows are out in pasture so I don't know a size just guessing....considering I know how much they go to the bathroom and don't care where they go.

I volunteer at an educational farm not far from my house and we had 4 holsteins at one point and we would tie them in straight stalls at night if it was bad weather. The stalls are about 3x 6ish feet. We had to sell a few cows due to financial problems(farms should be run by farmers not by politicians on committees) and we were left with two cows which in bad weather would come in and we put both in a 12x12 box stall over night it got really messy but it worked. We had to put them in the box tall because one of the cows broke a bar off the tie stall and got cut pretty bad

Length and width are critical dimensions if it is a tie stall. If it's box stalls, well, cows just make a mess in box stalls, but for calving a 12 x 12 is good, 15 x 15 better.
A show Holstein should be large so I would go to a nearby breeder and ASK what size sstall you should make. Length also depends on the type of tie system you have. You want the stall long enough to fit the cow but short enough so manure is dropped outside the bedding area. They also need room to move forward as they get up.
And Jerseys don't fit in a Holstein stall. They get very messy that way.

So I gotta decide between Tie or Box Stall. The cow would only live in it over night, it would be out on pasture during the day, come in when it's dark and then go back out in the morning. With that said, Im almost leaning towards a tie stall I think it would be cleaner and i could probably put more in the space that it would take for a box stall.

I agree %100. But I would also build a 10X12 stall just in case you want a pony/horse later
