Foraging And Feed Effeciency Comparing Breeds

I love chipmunks usually. Been thinning out their numbers with pellet rifle. I keep finding layer pellets stashed away inside my garage, under the hood of the lawn tractor, around the motor of the wood splitter, etc.
I don't get eggs from the chipmunks so they have to go. Wish the chickens would just kill and eat them when their in the coop stealing their feed.

Feed them back to the chooks. Not knowing the parasite pattern of this arrangement, IMO , cook the beasties first. Only a few chippies around here-- so we enjoy them.

We have not had a problem with rodents in the coop stealing feed or in the bin. But this is the reason why. Master of disguise!!

Definitely a win-win-win situation!!

  1. Time flies!!!
Chipmunk numbers are definitely up this year. Mild winter and plenty of feed to steal from the birds,. Love chippies, but not this many.

Not sure anymore if the Kwonza chicken will work for me. GTHey grew big but were slow and not the foragers I was looking for. Have 2 roosters left. THinking about crossing with a buckeye hen.......and eat the f1 offspring. Not worth developing another breed or line.

Hae noticed that the chicks brooded artificially are not quick and fast on their feet as those raised by free ranging broodies. Am trying to keep a broodie and her brood in a rabbit hutch in hope of handling the chic but that momma has sharp eyes and a sharper beak. Shes an ameraucana.
