Quail Projects - Page 2

Thread Starter

I will probably run into the same problems- not being satisfied with my stock.  I don't have an incubator running right now to hatch some quality eggs and I'm not real happy with the local quail available.

Quail Lady- you said you had a couple of things in production but not ready.  Can you put the successive generations next to each other and see the improvement?  Does it work that quick?

I have hatched a lot of birds and many are split for what I want. So when those grow out I will see what they produce. It's a long process.  I have gotten a few specimens that are what I am looking for so side by side you can see the difference.

My project involves crossing Butler Bobs to White Bobs, with the eventual goal to produce large size whites. I know that it will be a long road using splits and culling ruthlessly.

My reward will be a giant white quail that will produce epic internet fights after I claim them to be "Ultra-mega Gigantic Collosal A&M's". If I'm lucky I can scam millions of dollars from hopeful quail breeders by totally misrepresenting them on Ebay, then retire to one of those islands where they serve drinks with those idiotic little umbrellas in them.

"Disclaimer": The project is real but the internet scamming is fiction, although I do enjoy a good internet quail fight as much as the next guy. Coffee is hot, knives are sharp, contact your physician if interest in your wife lasts longer than 4 hours.

B. Kossum :

After I went back and read my original post I am surprised anybody understood it lol.  Bob-birds sound cool-might be something I'd be interested in.  Right now all I have are A&M's.  I've got some with more black on their heads than others.  Is it possible to breed them enough to get a solid black head?  I mean, there's not much of a point to it.  I just thought it would look cool.  Seems like with coturnix you can do a lot of playing with their colors.

If anybody else has any other breeding ideas for A&M's I'd love to hear them.  Just looking for something else to breed for.

I would try that! big_smile
Or like an all black body with a white head?!?

Robo, I have some nice tuxedoes if you need any help.

I can't figure out how to get them like this, I've been trying for over a year and only have one close to what I want.

I don't really have a project except that I am going to be hatching out tons of eggs so I can get about 30 female coturnix quail before farmers market starts so I can sell eggs there, then after farmers market ends in late october I will be butchering all accept 12 of the biggest males and females, and start all over again in spring.Whats the point of crossing a coturnix and a bob?Is it to make it grow faster or something?

When life gives you lemons you throw them back and ask for a cookie!
Currently have 4 muscovys,6 chickens,3 quail,also a corgi ,2 cats and 1 rabbit.

Just a cool bird, and honestly I don't know what it will be like. I don't trust what it says on Stromberg's site and I don't remember what it said on Vega Farm's site but I'll check.

I wonder how I could make a coturnix with an all black head and white body? Hm...hmm
