Bar soap for hand-washing dishes?

I've used a bar of ivory soap on dishes in the past and it works well. I'll have to check out the octagon - I don't know if I've seen it in years. Also always used fels naptha on a sponge to wash woodwork, etc. and it cut grease like a charm. A little tough on the old hands though, so I wear gloves.

I've tried diluting the dishwashing liquid - usually start with half and half in a container and keep diluting it until it's practically plain water. I try to avoid any antibacterial products -- I'm a nurse and think it has contributed to all those super germs that keep mutating to be more deadly. The most germs are probably on the sponges, so don't forget to have a few on hand and throw them in the laundry regularly! Drying them out in the sunlight is a good way to degerm them!

Simpler is better.
