None as of last night, this morning I noted my first Iowa Blue pip, then minutes later the whole egg is open. Pip to pop, forget the zip. LOL

Karimw, you're a grandma! 1st one nearly out, just needs to crawl out of the half shell. Peeping up a storm.

The chicks appear to be 2-3 days old to me. They took 2 days in the mail to arrive (which is just silly considering they were coming from less than 5 hours away, but I digress). Certainly had a start on their wing feathers when they arrived.

All are doing well today except one little buttercup from the order. Not bad at all. Eating, drinking, pooing, and running around like mad.

Will get photos of the hatching Iowa Blues when they come out of the incubator.

8 Iowa Blues out of the egg so far, 1 died halfway through the pip (darn it).

Lost the littlest Iowa Blue from Sandhill, not surprising, he had one leg not quite right and was fairly tiny. The other 9 are doing well. Seem to have 6 cocoa brown ones with lots of lacing and 3 black ones. Curious to see the differences in them when they age.

Quite pleased with my growing little flock so far. Heading out to finish my new brooder/broodie hutch. Here's how far I got yesterday:

(The toys were at the insistance of my 2 year old son, he's thrilled with the hutch.)

Looks like a great toy hutch to me!!!!! only problem, it looks to be full, I'm sure your son has more toys, be glad that he wants to put them in something looks to me like next project needs to be a big toy box, don't think you have time to take care of those chicks, what day did you say that I could come get them, than you wouldn't have to take pictures, I would take them w/o pics LOL Hutch looks too good to be used for chickens!!!!

Good Luck with the Blues and the son, Enjoy him , He'll grow up too fast !!! My oldest is 37, next is 30, DD is18, OMG I was 28 not that long

Sorry, didn't mean to kill this thread, again!!!!

Pics of the Easter Iowa Blue chicks.

First, some photos of my gorgeous chicks from KariMW's eggs:

Next are my chicks from Sandhill. 3 were black, the other 7 looked like little chipmunks. First photo is one of the black ones, the rest are the chipmunk ones. Of these, I've lost 3 scrawny ones of 10. They had a rough trip through the mail, I think. At least assuming they were all Iowa Blues since everything else in the box were non-single combed breeds. Seems like the chipmunk ones have a ton of lacing.

"Chick color will range from a warm cocoa brown to black to an occasional mottled one."

From Sandhill's site.

Will be tagging them so I know who was who as adults, interesting to see if there's a difference in how they turn out based on black vs. cocoa/chipmunk coloration.

Love these little guys, so active and happy.
