I am going to put it to you bluntly GS if you don't treat your rooster and the rest of your chickens for these mites most likely you will lose them all, and since your rooster is showing classic symptoms of mite infestation he'll most likely be the first to go.   Like dawg 53 said they cause anemia and that will kill them.. He's an awful pretty roo do you really want to lose him? you can find sevin dust at just about any feed store or Lowes or Home depot.. but time is important. and why give him left over Baytril? it's the mites that are making him sick..

Sevin Dust is sold at Tractor & Supply in the garden section.  You don't only have to use the name brand they also have Poultry Dust that works rather well.  DE is a great preventative but if you have an infestation already it is not going to work unless you strip & clean all housing and bedding, Replace it with clean dusted bedding, bathe & dry every chicken, and re-dust again in two weeks.  It is a lot of work and still is not the best way to deal with it.   I read in one of my books that you can kind of do a "shake & bake" (without the bake of course ).  If you a decent amount of the dust in a trash bag hold the chickens head out & shake gently and then hold for a bit so the dust can do a good job.

Just because your one rooster is showing symptoms does not mean the others are not bothered by it.  Chickens as with any bird will usually show sickness until they are really sick.  Take the proper precautions now to protect the rest of your flock and try to save your beautiful rooster.

I wouldn't give him the Baytril unless he actually had a respiratory infection.  Giving him an antibiotic not needed could cause the medication to be less affective in the future if he was to come down with something.

If you are still concerned about his breathing ( even though I agree that it is a mite problem ), you could try to give him some apple cider vineger (natural) in his water.

Anemia is caused by low iron which can be caused by loss of blood.  Just like in people, Anemia can make you tired & your immune system low.  Please don't quote me I'm not a doctor but I know I have battled it myself and it is not fun especially since taking iron in pill form made me sick.  had to eat a lot of spinach with Orange juice , UCK!

WARNING: DON'T   EVER GIVE ANY IRON PRODUCTS TO CHICKENS.                  They get anemic just like people  but PEOPLE ONLY should take iron(if doctor recommends)

I believe you should be able to get Sevin dust at any lawn/garden store.
