I live in Olathe and am interested in owning some hens as well also interested in helping with getting an ordinance in place. I'm a complete newbie, haven't had chickens since I was a kid, but I love fresh eggs and want to be more self sufficient and less reliant on grocery stores.

Steva,

I am right there with you on an ordinance. Olathe is a bit backwards on the matter.

Overland Park does not allow backyard hens, but ROELAND PARK does.  We have a growing community of backyard hens and would welcome you to join us!

Sheri,

Does that mean you are located in Olathe or Roeland Park?

Another newbie here in Olathe. I'd definitely help with an amendment any way I could.

I am new to Olathe and used to keep chickens when I lived in Paola. We got rid of all our chickens when we had to move because we couldn't move the coop and they were getting old. I thought about getting a few silkies or something but this place is completely overrun with wild cats. So probably not something I can do personally, but I would still be interested in helping you guys anyway I can with ordinances, etc.
