Weird egg? Weird clump = "LASH" (GRAPHIC Pics)

I'm not sure what your gelatinous clump was, and I'm still not sure what mine was, but the hen is indeed still alive and laying about every two days. I never really knew what it was....but I hope you can take comfort that it may not be life threatening.
All kinds of materials can be shed from the reproductive system, especially after molt or stress. Yours looks like it is made of the egg membrane material, with no shell . did it feel rubbery?

it was suggested to me that some times (for what ever reason) when a hen starts to lay again it will have this kind of show. Mine had the blob amd a really soft egg. then an egg with just one softer end and then today laid a better solid egg. I know it is the same hen because her egg is nearly white. It was like a jump start to what ever change was going on...Ahhhhhh..the joys of being a lady

My Myrtle (black Australorp) is acting funny. First I thought she had vent gleet, her toosh was a little messy. Now her comb is droopy and looking kinda pail. She hasn't laid an egg in months and her poop isn't normal, its green and yellow. It is just starting to be solid again after I've been feeding her yogurt laced with Vitamin C and B12, and alfalfa meal for its antibiotic and antifungal properties.

She is free ranging, she walks around and pecks at grass, she seems to be losing some weight. This morning I noticed this on the ground

. I hope she pulls through, she's one of my favorite hens.

I'm so grateful to find this thread. When we moved to a new house last Summer, two of our thee chickens laid "lash" and have never laid since. Our third chicken (a Buff Orpington) is the only one who lays anymore. We have been really hoping the other two will resume laying but after reading some of these stories it sounds like it may not happen. Their laying prior to the lash had become inconsistent and we chalked it up to the stress of moving so I started giving them "Layer Boost" from IFA, which is supposed to encourage egg-laying. Production increased for a short while and then they pooped out the lash and haven't laid ever since. The chickens are otherwise happy and healthy, not acting sick at all. My husband wondered if the "Layer Boost" had something to do with the lash producing and the end of their laying to this point. They are about 2 and half years old and are a Sex Link and a White Rock. Any thoughts or ideas?? Should I try giving them more or risk it happening again to our Buff Orpington??

I'm sorry this is happening to your flock, that's stressful! Looking up the product, my instinct tells me it is unlikely that the IFA Layer Boost caused the lash, it's just a blend of vitamins and enzymes with a little probiotics added, so don't blame yourself. Sex Link hens in my experience are very prone to getting lash, and sadly, many hens do wind up getting Peritonitis from internal lay, which seems to be related to lash. I lost a Leghorn this way in the fall of this year.
She hadn't layed an egg for several months after a lash, and I noticed she'd lost some weight. She seemed okay otherwise, she was eating and drinking and perching fine.
A few posts back there is a link about what causes lash, and explains some things you can try. A few people have had luck with combinations of antibiotics and crushed calcium tablets- the kind they sell for humans. This thread here might help:

Good luck, update on your hen when you get a chance

Thank you @LadyCluck77 ! I will read that other thread and see if I can use it to help our chicken ladies. Maybe I'll give the Layer Boost another shot too! I'll keep you updated. Hopefully we'll have happy egg-laying hens again!

Hello, I'm wondering if someone could please help me.
We have five free-range (rather spoiled) hens and I suspect this to have happened to the eldest of the flock, Maggie aged 3 or 4 (unsure) who was last out the nestbox and is suspected of not laying for quite sometime.

I found a rather odd looking egg today (16/09) in the nest box. At first I thought it was a rubber egg with the eggshell bunched up next to it but on closer inspection proved otherwise, a small squishy fleshy organ looking clump on the outside of the egg membrane and, when opening the egg I found a gooey ball with a similar looking lump accompanied with several discoloured blobs.
After some looking around on the internet leads me to believe this is a 'lash egg' but I'm unsure. Help?

(Pic is very gross and may not be of the best quality, sorry)
