Incubating peafowl eggs thread

I am starting a thread on incubating peafowl eggs. I would like to start by asking no one to move this to the incubating eggs section because it is solely on peafowl. The idea is we will posted about how we incubate, what works and what doesn't work and tell stories about incubating peafowl eggs.
I will start it off. I use a 1502 Sportsman incubator and hatched 7 peachicks last year making it my most successful year ever. I used to use a little giant incubator but I do not trust them anymore because the seem to stop being able to maintain a temp after one or two years of use.

I might possibly be incubating some Peafowl eggs in a few weeks.

I will either be using my 1588 Genesis Hova-Bator, or if I have my GQF incubators and hatchers by then I'll be using them..if they aren't filled up with chicken eggs!!

How big are Peafowl eggs next to chicken eggs? Any advice you can give me on incubating them would be super awesome!

My hen is free range. If I find the nest and decide to incubate, I will be using a Brinsea ECO 20 that I just ordered.
This would be my first time incubating anything.

We use Dickey and Leahy incubators to incubate the eggs and GQFs for hatchers.

4 years ago we hatched around 125 Peachicks, we don't hatch that many any more because the Peafowl market is pretty flooded and hard to sell them so we have cut back to about 50 peachicks a year now which is plenty with the price feed the way it is now.

Question about incubating since this is my first time:


Since Peafowl eggs do better on their sides, I just got my Brinsea and it looks like I can adjust the egg holders to hold the eggs on their sides.
Will I have luck with that, and using the autoturner. The autoturner is suposed to rotate the incubator once her hour. Or would it be better to
leave the racks out and turn by hand.

I got 3 peafowl eggs at an auction last year. Put them in the incubator with my turkey and chicken eggs. One did not develop.
The other two fully developed, but one did not hatch. Not sure what the reason was. The third one turned out just great.
Until an owl made dinner out of it.

So we are in the market for peafowl eggs again this year. Would prefer India Blue, and we live in Missouri.

We used the same temps and humidity as for turkeys, and I turned them by hand, on their sides. Guess I got lucky.

Last year was my first year and I learned a lot. This year I have 4 incubators and won't mix and match chickens with turkeys. And I don't have any geese eggs this year. They need a lot higher humidity.

love this threed this will be the first year for little blue an i to incubat pea eggs.we have an lg right now but we are looking to up grade little blue has saved 300$ an is trying to figure out what bator she want she loves the sportsman but is a little out of her price range.i told her maybe next year she can afford the sportsman she is only 11 so has plenty of time to save up for it.lol cant wait to see all the great info we read on this page.
