Sexing ISA Browns

Thread Starter

After reading about ISA Browns on the Breed page, I thought I had 5 pullets.  The Breed page said ISAs were easy to sex because at birth the cockerels are white and the pullets are tan.  I got week old chicks from TSC on March 14 and they were all tanish at that time.  All 5 of them look the same to me, like pullets.  None of them have any roo characteristics that I can see.  So, when I'm reading others' posts asking for help in sexing their ISAs I don't see anyone telling them that the roos are white and the hens are tan.  Have I misunderstood the Breed page?  What do you think mine are then?  Sorry for the bad pics.  I accidentally left my good camera hanging on my passenger side mirror and drove off to church!  Never knew it was there until I went looking for it 7 hours later and found it on the side of the road pretty trashed.  Now have to use my cell phone. he

BTW, you see my Chinese Crested in the foreground of the fourth picture.  He's almost exactly the same color as the chicks and I think they think he's their mom because they follow him around all the time.  lau  He is becoming very protective of them.

Pics didn't work, but if they were tan/gold at hatch, they're girls. They may feather in whitish for a while but will turn gold/yellow. The males are very silver/white at hatch, usually pretty easy to tell the difference.

I can't see the pics, but red sex-link pullets/hens can have a quite a bit of white mixed in with the buff/gold/red. Their main color will be dark, but some have quite a bit of white, some have hardly any.

Wendy, chemist, mama to 4 human children, a crazy Husky/Australian Shepherd cross dog, a cat, several fish, bunnies, 17 goats, and our ever growing flock of chickens, ducks, turkeys, and geese.

ISA's are dead on right according to sex.

White is rooster
Buffy/brown/red is pullet.

However, unless you got them from Townline, you might have a home brew, in which case, all bets are off.
In the photo, ignore the black BSL, but you can easily distinguish the white roos from the red/buff pullets.

So guess mine are all pullets from your description.  YES!!  All 5 of mine are the rust colored with some white streaking like those in your picture.  I don't have any that are all white.  Now to figure out why the pics didn't come thorugh.  I could see them in the preview. idunno  Thanks for the replies!
