I know that BYC offers a lot of very useful info when it comes to municipal codes, however there is not much listed as far as Kansas City goes (not BYC's fault, they can only do so much). If any of you out there are from the Kansas City metro area just let me know and I can tell you whether or not they have rules. I've been doing a LOT of research lately because I want to move to a place that has some acreage someday, so I've been looking up codes for pretty much every city around me. If you don't want to list your city where everyone can see it, just send me a PM (I won't share the info with anyone). So far, it looks like the majority of cities here allow chickens as long as you live on a farm or have a special permit, but it varies.

As an attachment to the above post... does anyone know the backyard chicken ordinance for Overland Park? We have bought a house and will move this summer. If OP does not allow chickens, what would happen if I got a coop and raise three little, quiet hens? Also, is there a local chicken club where members meet and SHOW each other how to raise chickens? Thank you.

Yes, you should be able to have a couple hens in your backyard. I think BYC has more specific info for OP, but I can't remember where I found it. I'm still new to this site.
