Oregon - Page 11

Hello all! Does anyone want to help promote chickens at the Greener Homes and Gardens Expo in PDX? http://www.greenerhomesandgardens.com/about.htm I found a guy who is looking for people to volunteer in two hour chunks to chat with the general public about them. You don't have to know a lot about chickens, just be able to make your way through basic questions. I think this is a great way to spread the love of chickens! pm me for his contact info. smile

Hi fellow Oregonians ~ we live on the beautiful Oregon Coast near Sunset Beach (also known as Charleston, but doesn't sound as pretty). We have 24, 8 week chicks. 1 male EE, lots of girl EE's, 1 Golden Campine pullet, 1 Fayoumi pullet, 2 Polish hen pullets, 5 Cochin pullets....and I think that's it (?). My daughter and I love these forums and have fallen in love with our babies, can't wait for our gorgeous eggs ~ KJ & CJ

kim, proud owner of 15 yo human girl (MikasGirl), 18 month old human boy, Egyptian Fayoumis, Cochins, Polish hens, Easter Eggers and one Hamburg! Oh and Barred Rocks and chubby GLWs, and 2 chubbier Jerseys

Hello to everybody, frow
We are just starting this whole chicken thing up and my girls are all worked up over it. Funniest part is I asked my landlord about it and she went nuts !!! She is behind us doing this 100%. She has already put the word out to family and friends that she will be getting "farm fresh" eggs. Kind of funny, we can't have any "pets", but bring on the chickens. As of right now I'm starting to clean out and rebuild the one outbuilding that we have here and turn it into a coop. After I'm done with it, then bring on the chickens. The girls want the chickens now and can't seem to get the fact that the chickens need a place to stay. My youngest, Miranda (6) said "they can stay in our room and sleep under my bed, Dad." I'm sure that my city/suburb raised wife would just love that one. Paige (8) thinks this will be fun, but I can see her pulling out pretty quick due to the fact she is so much like her mother. My son, Clay, (13, almost 14) is away for some schooling and I think he going to figure that I have gone nuts when he comes home and sees this. LOL He might just be right. Any tips and hints on the coop work would be great. I have some ideas and have looked over some of the commercial coops that are out there, but I've learned (usually the hard way) that it's better to ask for help from people who know, then to just forge ahead. So here's to meeting some of you and having fun with my kids. And at this point I think that my signature says it all....

I can't remember if I posted on this thread or not.  I'm Laurie and I'm in Mosier, OR (pop 450) out in the beautiful Columbia Gorge.  Lots of wind out here, lots of cherry orchards, too.  We actually live on a 34 acre cherry orchard, but our focus is our daughters (ages 1, 2, & 3) and our hobby farm.

Hey everyone out in Oregon!  frow
