And then there comes the "freshness factor"! See according to the USDA. Eggs can be sold in stores as "farm fresh" for UP to 6 months from the date the eggs were harvested.  beingsick.gif

Maybe for people who think a pale yellow egg yolk is normal, and all they have ever eaten, a big orange yolk is pretty alarming! ep.gif

2 Buff Orpingtons, , 2 Australorps, 2 Bantam EE, 2 Delawares, 2 Barnevelders, 2 blue mixed something, 1 "Orpicana",1 Polish mix that looks like a roadrunner! A black Bantam Faverolles rooster named Henry. And 2 Australian Spotted ducks.

I HAVE heard some crazy folks say that about backyard chicken eggs.... but all i know for sure is that my eggs are like CRACK to the people i sell to..... they come begging and drooling looking for my eggs! All it took was one free 6-pack and they were HOOKED! Now i charge $5 a dozen and cant keep them in my fridge! I have waiting lists! Lol.

Variety is the spice of life. Too many to list anymore!

Now that I don't have any d'Uccle which is my "yolk of choice" I am using the serema eggs as the whole egg with my huge bowl of 'whites'.  Still doesn't seem as yummy as the dUccle but will do.  I was going to sell all of the bantam brahma but they are the best winter layer so I am re-thinking that plan and may set up a hen house for eggs.....

I'd rather have a dozen bantam eggs then any regular store bought eggs.  Our local Thriftway does sell a local chicken persons eggs and they are really just like buying from ourselves so I do buy those when I need eggs for eatin' and have none =:~)

cyber regards on this absolutely lovely day,

I got them at Oregon City Wilco.  I know, I know...hatchery birds, but I just got them for fun, so I don't care. :)  Plus, they were sexed.  The Canby store only has Pekins and Crested ducks.  I didn't want those.  I called OC, and asked if they had the blue Swedes or Cayugas, those are my 2 favorite breeds. I had them hold the trio for me, and surprised my son with a trip to pick them up after school. :)

That's funny, Cayugas tie with Blue Swedish as my top favorite ducks lol.png If only I could have ducks, but my mother doesn't want them ruining our pond. Oh well, I can still dream!

What a beautiful day, it's hard to believe that we had frost just two nights ago...I built a 6x4 movable run that fits over my raised bed garden frames. It was great to be outside...will start the coop tomorrow...
