I also think it'd be good to bump up this thread!  here is a good video on youtube that shows how to slip the tendon back...  but mine won't stay put!

He just started his 4th day, I started putting it back at the end of the 3rd day.  I don't think a chicken chair will be feasible, I have to go to work now.

Any advice?

Thanks!!

I cannot get it to stay either!  I have tried a dozen times for the past 3 days, to no avail.  He seems to hate it more and more!  There is a small sore on the outside of the hock, I suspect he uses it as a support, so maybe it is rubbing?  I guess he could have scraped it on the wire in the incubator, I know he was in there over nite.  I have been putting Neosporin on it, its rather swollen and icky.  Since its got swollen yesterday I haven't tried to put the tendon back into place much as he hates it and the swelling cannot be good.  but he hops around and seems perky... he is Rhode Island Red and I separated him from the other 'big' birds and now he is just with the little bantams.

Does anyone have suggestions on if I should continue to try to put the tendon back??  he will be a week old tomorrow.

or just let him be?  He seems too happy and alive to cull him yet.

Thanks!

This is a way to reallign a slipped tendon in a leg. Step one, hold the leg out behind the chicken and straighten it. Step two, massage the tendon back into place. I hope this post is helpful for you and that the chick recovers.

Can a 2 and half month old chick get a slipped tendon?  I discovered this morning that my 2.5 mth old bantam pullet is having trouble walking.  One of her legs is sticking out to the side. Its not broken. I have her inside, but what else should I do?  She was the smallest in grow out coop, but one of the oldest and feistiest. I don't know what could have happened to her. She could fly up on perches if the younger birds were bothering her.

Hey Everyone!

Although I did not post during the process, in fear of getting hopes up, I had a Polish chick develop a slipped tendon on the way to me. Through this, and many other threads, I did her stretches, wrapped as recommended, and she is FINE! I never dreamed she would make a full recovery. Thank you for your willingness to help others. With all the information on the forum, I did not need to make my own post!
