chest bumping?

Oh I am so happy to read this all of mine do it and one of them gets this stone cold look on her face and just makes herself tall and stares at whoever is attempting this feat of hierarchy and the one that started it walks away defeated. Its like she's to tough to even engage its really funny!

X2 for me also. I thought I had 2 boys on my hands bc of the constant chest bumping and flying at each other as if to see who can fly higher. I always say hey girls stop that and make up

LOL

Our barred rock chicks are doing this "sumo wrestler" chest bumping thing and it's hilarious to watch, but since we'd never seen it before it had us wondering what on earth it was about. Now we know, lol!

I am really glad to hear this is normal too! I was getting a little worried that I had some kind of crazy sumo chickens as well! Mine do it most when first thing in the morning when I let them out of the coop it's a little wake up ritual or something :p

Bringing this thread back to life... I had to look up why they are doing this since my girls have decided to include my children and I in thier chest bumping.. they never get to bumping us tho, they change their minds mid run and flap off lol although my son nearly got a bump on his rump lol

me and my fiancé have 5 12 week old black copper marans, 4 12 week old red sex links, and 1 12 week old blue orpington. we have noticed the chest bumping for about 3 weeks now. it is the funniest thing I have ever seen pullets do. the marans and the sex links start it but my fiancé's "blue" shuts it down fast. she can be on the other side of the yard and sees it start, and like a flash she it there to stop it. we laugh so hard every time. "Blue" is the top momma! lol

Thank goodness this is 'normal' lol.
We have had 2 new girls, a Buff Sussex (beautiful bird) now aged 16-17wks, and a Blue Copper Maran/LegBar Cross (cutie who warbles & purrs 🙄) aged 15wks who joined us in June.
For weeks they've run at each other, shoulders up & out, neck feathers fluffed out horizontal, heads down and they're SO fast until they jump up, collide, 'chest bump' then run or walk off again. Maybe only once every couple of hours during which time they play what can only be described as a game of 'tag you're it' lol.
Our flock leader/Mother hen - Dottie a stunning talkative (pain in the bum) 9 month old Welsummer just stands, watches and almost shakes her head whilst walking away 😂
10mins spent with this lot and your day is brightened no end..........

Ours have right on cue just done it again !
This time they met mid-alottment and stopped dead before colliding, facing off, heads up high, neck fluffed out, shoulders out and on tip-toes but stepping sideways around each other in a semi circle before suddenly stopping, calming down and walking off shoulder to shoulder......
Below is Olive, our 15wk Blue Copper Maran/LegBar Cross, then Maisie our 16-17wk Buff Sussex.
