First, watching a runner duck run is awesome. They can find their own food. They aren't like pekins in water. Mine haven't started laying but I heard their decent.

Its not as fat and slow as a pekin, but its not frail either. I want a mallard but I don't want a flying bird. The rouen is great for that.

They are my calmest birds and are easiest to catch. They eat less than Pekins. I heard they also lay well, but mine are younger.

I have 9 baby silkies I ordered. They are now 4 1/2 weeks old. My question is are they old enough to start being able to tell their gender? I ordered mostly pullets, with a few straight runs. I was just wondering if I could start to tell who's what yet. Can anyone give me some suggestions on what to look for? There is nothing pressing, I will not thin down the roos until they are fully mature. My husband and I just want to practice. tongue

It would be best to wait. when they are almost full grown the roos neck feathers will be longer. you can't tell for sure about the fighting( roo fighting) some of my hen fight like that too. good luck
