Sorry for your loss, sounds like Emily was well loved.

And thou shall have dominion over all the beasts...except, of course, for cats. Felines 12-15   Can you hear meow?     How about nee-ow?

No it was a predator.  It was  pretty nasty.. Something had chewed on her.  The bite was down to bone.. again, I just didn't feel comfortable getting into a whole lot of details.  I guess that would have been an idea if it were a simple small type bite.. but this was an open wound fairly deep..   and there was nothing around that would have indicated he had bit her.  The area was missing, and not found anywhere..

Edited to add:  I do have pictures that can be emailed, however I dont want to offend anyone by placing them here..

Or was there more damage you didn't mention that made you think it was a predator......

It's just such a heartbreaking situation........ I'd be devastated if I lost Jazzy, I've raised him from a baby and he's like a big dog. I hope you try again one day, you were just getting to know how awesome they are.

Im angry, hurt, ticked.. devastated.. I really was just getting to know her.. and believe me, I was stand-offish at first, but she was awesome.. just awesome.. and she was very much like a big dog.. I read the situations with animals coming in and killing peoples chickens and such, but she was an adult.. bigger then my minis.. I just dont get it.. Whatever it was didnt hurt my Roo.. or my Bunny.. Just her.. and my Roo has messed up feet, so he can't get away.. Follow your gut.. is all I can say.. I didnt, and now she's gone.  I have our chicken yard almost set up.. We are probably going overboard on the protection side of things.. but I'm not taking any risks.. Ive learned, one can never be TOO safe.. You guys have been very understanding though.. its been good to vent.. Thank you all again.

I am so so so sorry for your loss! I just got on this forum because my husband and I acquired a pair of emus and I'm trying to learn about them. Your story was very touching.

I had a question though, relating to the Ivermectin paste you were finally able to sucessfully feed Emily. What dosage did you use? I bought some apple flavored paste thinking they would eat that up, but I don't know how much to give. Ours are fairly friendly, but I don't want to try to wrangle them into taking a shot, since we are pretty unfamiliar to them.

Thanks again for sharing your story.
