Hello all you LF Cochin enthusiasts. I really feel like when I get on the Cochin thread, most of the talk is about bantams, for bantams, by bantam breeders. That is not the case 100% of the time, but it feels to me like I have to sort through 20 posts about bantams for every post on Large Fowl.

Well, I don't have any bantams and I don't really plan on getting any in the near future. (Frankly, I don't even like the way the bantam Cochins look) Maybe it's just me being selfish and not wanting to keep sorting through all the other stuff, but maybe there are a few others out there that have the same issue that I do.

I raise Large Partridge Cochins. This year I decided to double mate with a male that is definitely not standard color, but has lacing on all over the place, breast, back, etc. and another male that is with my better typed hens that don't have as clear lacing. Any other color breeders trying double mating?

Hi there!
I fell for LF Cochins the first time I laid eyes on them years ago lol. I have a pair of white bantams also
and love them too, but the big guys are my favs! Seems they are getting more rare also. My LF's are
black giants. I would like to add some blue hens when I find some nice ones.
Great idea to start this thread:)

I started with Blacks but after a couple years, I decided I would rather work with colors. My favorite color has always been Partridge, so that's what I got. It took me a while to get my stock together as Partridge is pretty rare. I got some from George Opperman and some from Rita Eichman. A few years later I came across a friend that had a pair with excellent color and from there, I have been working them up. I've got a few fertile eggs in the incubator and I hope this is a break out year

I just wanted to stop by, and say it's nice to see other LF Cochin enthusiasts.

I kinda agree with you, reguarding the other Cochin thread.
While, I'm suscribed to that thread, have learned a LOT from that thread.....it's nice to see, a LF Cochin ONLY thread.

Who in your opinion raises the best Gold laced Standard cochins? I see some eggs for sale from time to time but don't know what I would be getting. Thank you

I love my LF Cochins! I have a blue and one black hen, and a blue rooster. I was wondering if there are any LF barred Cochin breeders out there. I really love the color, and I am not interested in exhibiting, just for my own enjoyment! They are terrific pets! ( my girls are aptly named, " Black and Blue"....)

I have 2 blk roos and 2 blk hens. I also have an incubator full of blues and partridge. Love those LF cochins!! I will keep currant on the other cochin thread and this one too. Thanks for starting this discussion.

Been breeding and showing LF cochins for about 10 years. Started with blacks and blues and went crazy from there. I now have 8 varieties of large and one bantam variety as well as barred rock large fowl and toulouse geese, talk about a feed bill!!!! I have a few fertile partridge eggs in the hatcher right now out of your birds Rudy these will be the first, I have put the other male with them now and hope to get a few chicks out of that cross as well. The two pullets have laid like leghorns for a couple of months but it too the cockerel forever to decide to get fertile.
I also have a few brown cochin eggs in the hatcher. Let's keep this thread active and full of good information.

Bo

Large Cochins Rule!!!!

Well I am excited about the LF Cochins I just got my first babies I have 2 Silver lace pullets who are like 6 weeks now. and my batch of babies includes a blue, partridge, black, gold lace, all roosters from the looks and stance but time will tell. I think i have a splash 2 black and a partridge that i am crossing my fingers are girls. And thanks to the chicken swap i may have two more girls coming. Plus any other babies i can find.
I fell in love with these guys at the fair two years ago. Wasn't able to get in touch with the breeders so figured i would do order babies and try again this year to contact. However we are doing our first test egg batch in our incubator of coarse not Cochins but next batch i am going in search for some exciting eggs.
What i was wondering is if i want to do more blue and splash i need to have blue or splash to black or other dilute. I would love to get some lavender maybe my next adventure. What i was also wondering is do the come up with lethal genes if you breed to many dilutes. I just would like to do some research i am sure there are lost of threads but going thru thousands of pages takes time which i do have but would like to have some knowledge.
I Would love some information or if anyone has tips for a newbie in the fluffy kid adventure i would appreciate it.
these are a few of my babies
