First, I'll say it's tough to evaluate from photos.  That said.  The females are better than the male.  From the photo, it looks like the male may have off colored shanks.  Even from the distance in the photo (bottom photo of him by himself) you should be able to see yellow shanks/feet and beak.  He's very pinched in the tail and his balance is off.  Cochins are supposed to have a more forward tilt.  Good rule of thumb is that the eye should be level with the top of the cushion.  Can't tell too much about their size so can't comment on that.  Overall they are not too bad.  The massiveness of a Cochin is made up by its profuse feathering.  They are a fairly large framed bird, or should be, and they take a very long time to develop.  My females don't look their best until they are 2 years old.  I took the below photos in October when I was getting ready for a show.

Hey Tom! I'm not sure if you remember me, but I sent you an email probably a few months back asking about your Cochins. I notice in your sig it says you don't do eggs/chicks. Do you sell young birds at all? If so, would you have any barred Cochins available in spring? I want them so badly, and your birds are absolutely gorgeous! Even better, I'm very close to you. Just over in Greene County yippiechickie

Winter's here. What do you do differently to get your Cochins ready for winter than for the rest of your birds?

Extra litter in there pens to keep there feet and feathering dry also a little vaseline for those big straight combs to keep down the frost bite.

Does anybody have experience with the Urch line of Blacks or Blues?  I recently got a flock of BBS that need the blue darkened and need size. This flock isn't show quality but also not hatchery quality. I was hoping to introduce a Black or Blue SQ cockerel to the flock. If anybody knows of anybody in Iowa with SQ Cochins that may have an extra cockerel they would part with or anybody with eggs that would be willing to ship, please PM me.
Thank you for your time.
Jim

I have a darker male that is show quality...my lines are Star Cochins. If you are interested please pm me and i can send you a picture

I raise and show standard Blue, Black and Splash cochins. I also raise and show standard Bearded Buff Laced Polish. I have taken over the line and the name Star Cochins and I am doing my best to make the previous owners proud. I also breed Appenzeller Spitzhaubens. No, I don't know how many chickens I have...they keep moving!

Howdy Rudy!  Happy New Year!  I don't do anything differently for the Cochins really, but I have to keep an eye on the mediterranean males to make sure their combs don't get frost bite.  Keeping the litter as dry as possible is the best thing no matter what the breed.  Good circulation, but no drafts.
