Large Fowl Cochin Thread - Page 53

Getting my LF BBS Cohins today.  They should be at the house when I get home from work.

I haven't seen too many cochins in the state of Arkansas, but if there are they are staying hidden.

Well I'll just have to wait about 9 to 12 months for these to start laying.

Lazy J's.  He's out in Saline County.  Known him for several years.

I've not seen too many Cochins at the swaps and sales so I didn't think many people had them, maybe they are just collectors.

Lovely gals there!    I'm still trying to convince mine to go broody to cook some eggs.  No takers yet.

Some spring pictures;

They've developed a habit of squatting behind me.

It has become dangerous to do anything that involves bending over least I stand up, step back and fall to my imminent doom in a pile of squawking mad hens.  roll.png

Just want to remind everyone that the next Cochins International Newsletter will be going out sometime in the last two weeks of May. As Matt said in the Poultry Press, the mailing list is being purged of all non-current members BEFORE the Newsletters go out. Postage costs have our hands tied - we simply can't cover the costs of the unpaid members. So please be sure that your membership for 2012 is up-to-date. If you are unsure, you can contact Matt McCammon directly.

And remember, you don't have to be an Officer or Director to submit an article for the Newsletter - just contact Linda Tobia. The current submission deadline for the May Newsletter is May 15th. Ad space is also now available for sale in the Newsletter - see the website for more details.

I also want to remind all CI members that we offer free links to all current member websites on our "Member Links" page. You can contact me with your information.

Hello from New Zealand. we dont have Cochins as such but we ( well one guy mainly ) have spent the last 20 yrs trying to redevelop the breed over here & i am the proud owner of a few & im trying to breed them. i was hoping that someone here will have a copy of the standard of perfection that they would scan & email me so i can better select my breeders. i know this is a big ask but we dont have our own yet ( hopefully next year ) Thanks ETS if you click the link below you can find pics of my cochins. ( have tried to post here)

I posted these pictures on the Cochin thread and was advised to come to the LF Cochin thread for help in confirming which of these birds hatched Jan 27 and Feb 22 are attempting to crow.   These are from eggs from Jim Heinz from Iowa and are really sweet  birds.   The little d'Anvers that is in the pen with them is a roo, but someone else in the pen is making roo noises.

I've narrowed it down to these two.  The blue on the left and the splash on the right.  None in the pen have very big wattles yet but these have darker pink ones.

I'll post a picture of the pullets too. I'm thinking all of these are pullets.  They like to "purr" and cuddle too much to be boys.

  Are we all pullets.jpg

Hope someone can help.  I know the LF cochins are hard to determine sex since the mature slower that other LF  breeds.

I have 10 babies hatched from Bo Garret's blues and two of his gorgeous white hens.  I also have a Blue Roo and Blue hen from Carl Jarvis breed line.

I'm guessing the Splash is but I'm unsure on the other. I've had a few pullets from this line trick me.

I'd guess either of the splashes too but compared to the few I've gotten/seen they all look like pullets.  Very lovely, I'd love to have some nice looking blues.
