How To Stop Food Waste?

Is it possible that you are over feeding the chickens?
Also perhaps your feeder has become tainted with something unpalatable.
Perhaps a good scrub out of the device may do the trick.

When my hens behave in this manner, it invariably means either I am
over feeding them or the kitchen bucket or trough have become tainted.

Here is a picture of my zero (or really close to zero) waste feeder. Its just a piece of corrugated drain pipe bent in an L shape with slots cut out of it. The trick is to make it so the slots are just big enough for their heads and the lip comes up high enough. The upstream hole was too low and the red chicken would just stand there spooning out feed so i had to screw a small piece to adjust the hole size. No waste since. You can make this as tall as you want to hold more food too. If you need it for more than a few chickens you could try making the horizontal part of the L slope downwards so the feed travels further downstream.

I have only used pellets but im sure it would work fine for crumbles too.
