Square Foot Gardening Thread

Very cool thread!! We don't SFG in the purest sense but we do raise bed garden and have for 20+ years. Love it!! So much easier than normal gardening. I have fabric soaker hoses for each bed. I like to be a lazy gardener.

We had a ton of work this year to get ready as we had to replace 11 of our 15 beds. We'll tackle redoing the other 4 next year. We have 4x4's and 2x24's. We also revamped all the walk ways this year. We usually grow several varieties of heirloom and modern tomatoes, lettuce, onions, beans, yellow squash, zucchini, assorted herbs, sweet potatoes, cantaloupes and an assortment of ornamental sunflowers and whatever else strikes out fancy. Cheryl and I enjoy the garden so much!!

I do raised beds as well. Just came in from planting seeds - cukes, beans, swiss card, carrots and beets I have three more beds to go. My beds are 4 x 8 and have nine of them in the garden. Two of which are dedicated to tomatoes. I love SFG. My parents were big fans and my mom gave me their book and she bought a new one. My father passed some time ago and I have all his hand written notes in the book. Every time I open it, I feel that he is with me. )
I did have to amend my beds this spring and have three more to go. With all the weird weather here in NY, work, etc I am very late in planting.
Happy gardening to all.

Interesting screen name. Do you raise Iris? One of my favorite flowers to grow. I'm sorry you lost your dad, and can appreciate the pleasure you get from carrying on his love of gardening, and seeing his notes! I've planted beans, cukes, herbs, and peppers in the last few days. Have lots of stuff in pots yet to be planted. Got up to 80* here today!!!

Wow, that is pretty warm. We are rainy and in the 50's and 60's here on Long Island. Yes, Iris' are my favorite flower. I have them all over my yard - all different colors. Rain is just breaking here and sun trying to come out. Well, off to go get more soil for the beds. Have a great day.

If you can, how bout posting some pics of your iris? I also LOVE day lilies b/c they are so super easy to grow. There are some wonderful varieties to be had now... some of which almost rival the iris for beauty.
