Color dyed chicks?

How do they do it?
And I really want some And/or want to learn how to do it >.<
And If they come in purple...
Im gonna have to get some for my mom XD

There are pet safe dyes you can use if you really want to dye the chicks. There was a whole thread about a dyed pink silkie you can search for and get some tips. Many people were a upset about the whole dying chickens thing so expect some flak!

The dye is injected into the egg a few days before the chick hatches. I think they can be dyed any color that you can find a safe, vegetable based dye to color them with. So if you have an incubator and some hatching eggs (of a breed with a light colored chick) you can make them yourself.
I don't know where to find them though, I have yet to see any around here.

Check to see if it is even legal in your state. You may not be able to buy them in certain states.

In some states it is illegal, even if it is your own animal. I believe GA and NY are among those states.
And that would be awesome if you enter a pink cavy. I had a friend that did that for showmanship, but I never had a white to try it on. I grew up in CA, and she showed that dyed guinea pig in CA, and never got in trouble for it, but I still would double check that it is legal to do. Some states specify that dying a chick in the egg is illegal (as opposed to dying an adult animal), since that is how it is usually done in the hatcheries.

Where in CA? The funny thing is that I lived in Kansas (Hillsboro) for 5 years too. (College)

I know that those dog shows where they dye and paint poodles in unusual ways are legal here, so I can't see why other than getting DQed for being altered, there would be an issue with a dyed cavy.

I think in most states it is illegal to dye chicks , ducks and rabbits to sell and if they want to be jerks they can fine you for dyeing your dog. I'm a groomer and I dye my poodle all the time and I have friends who compete in creative grooming and they stopped haveing creative competitions in florida because they were being harrassed and fined for haveing dyed dogs. The law seems to be very old and I think needs to be revisited . Which is probably what has happened in some states that specify dyeing in the egg. I can see them being against the selling of dyed chicks etc because it just makes them more appealing to people to bye for easter presents but we should be aloud to dye our own animals without worrying about getting fined.

505.12 COLORING RABBITS OR BABY POULTRY; SALE OR DISPLAY OF POULTRY.




(a) No person shall dye or otherwise color any rabbit or baby poultry, including, but not limited to, chicks and ducklings. No person shall sell, offer for sale, expose for sale, raffle or give away any rabbit or poultry which has been dyed or otherwise colored. No poultry younger than four weeks of age may be sold, given away or otherwise distributed to any person in lots of less than six. Stores, shops, vendors and others offering young poultry for sale or other distribution shall provide and operate brooders or other heating devices that may be necessary to maintain poultry in good health, and shall keep adequate food and water available to the poultry at all times.

I am NOT judging or being critical in any way....I am just very curious....why??? Why, when chickens come in SO many naturally beautiful colors would you want to dye them???
