Thank you Alexis for the beautiful story!  So the black pullet is a direct decendent of the rooster in the story?  Anyway, the other two chicks were matching.  They are shorter with fluffy legs, and colored black and white?  They are sleeping and I can't completely remember their color, but they were two contrasting colors.

Im so glad. No joke on the adult beverage. I stopped on the way home and grabbed cupcakes from a cute little bakery down there (sweet carbs are my weakness 2nd to chickens) and didnt get home till after 7. The frizzle along with the other 3 birds we got jumped into the coop ate and drank a little and headed to bed. Please let me know how they do tomorrow.

Way to many chickens to remember, 7 runner ducks, 2 Turkeys, and 1 huge BO roo.

Wow what a fabulous swap today. We didn't set-up a booth and sell pullets like we normally do but did sell a red bourbon turkey and a b/w ameracauna hen. Brought home an orp chick, stunning pair of gold laced Polish, couple scrubbies, soap and the ever scrumptious Cheesecake!! Thanks everyone for a great time and dh and I are already making plans to attend the spring swap with lots of pullets (Ameracaunas too big_smile )

I had a wonderful day - it almost seems like I won't know what to do with all my spare time now that the swap is over. But then I came home and looked at my house - I've got my work cut out for me lol

I want to share my story of the day.

A gentleman stopped by my table and was chatting with me about who-knows-what. Then he said he wanted to know where I lived, so I told him (we're a trusting lot, aren't we?). His face lit up and he said, "Hey, didn't I come to your house with some chickens once?!" It took me a minute, but then I realized that he was the guy who just stopped in at my house about two years ago because he always saw me outside taking care of my critters. He had "rescued" a trio of chickens downtown in Corvallis a few days before and no owners had turned up. I'm not sure why he was driving around with them, but he stopped in and asked if I would please give them a home. Well... I didn't really NEED another rooster, but I told him I'd keep the hens because at least they could return the favor. He was insistent that they all stay together, because they were "attached". haha!

So, I caved under pressure (kind of like I do when ZooMummzy gets me to take another rooster lol ) and I took all three of the chickens. He also bought me a bag of food, and came over the next day to build them a little pen and a little roost. Then we went on vacation. I had a farm-sitter paid for, but he insisted on coming over every day to care for these birds, and make sure they were having a nice transition. After a couple weeks of this - I didn't see him again. Until today. It was so touching!

He was equally thrilled to hear that the chickens did well at our place, and that one was still living. Since I had brought a lot of photos along, I handed him one with a picture of the "grandson" to the rooster he gave us (who is now in charge of the whole flock, and is in my photo that will be in the BYC Calendar!) and he got tears in his eyes! So I sent him home with the photo, which he was clutching to his heart as he walked away. Darn near made ME cry!

Anyway - that's my story of the day. I loved meeting everyone that was there, it was such a pleasure and you were all so very nice, helpful and flexible! Thank you for making it easy on us, and I'm so looking forward to the next one.

hit Hurray for BYC's you especially, what a good deed.

Oh! Those would be from my cochins! They will be super sweet birds. They were hatched here from my bantam pen, and while a few were all cochin, the Sultan ended up being the surprise Dad to a couple because I noticed extra toes. If yours don't have extra toes, and the feet are more yellow, then they are cochin. The third, probably noticeable larger one, is descended from the rescued rooster. Enjoy them!

I had a great day at the swap big_smile It's the first one I've been to and I am definitely going back! I came home with 5 insanely adorable chicks; 2 blue/splash orpingtons and 3 d'Uccles, 2 millie fleur and an adorable porcelain.
Thank you everyone who worked so hard to make the swap happen smile

I feel like a truck hit me  gig  Maybe that is why I tripped over the mop bucket and spilled water everywhere  hu

I had a GREAT day!  It was so awesome to see old friends, make new ones and witness how Benton County embraced our event!  woot  I kept hearing all day "I think we need a bigger building".  LOL I think you may be right.  I was freaking out a bit when more people kept showing up and we were out of tables but thanks to Alexis' plan, it went smoothly.  Jeanine rocked the raffle table...and between her and Alexis "cleaned up" quite nicely  gig

On a serious note though, I think it went well....very well.  The set up went quickly and fairly efficiently...the same with the clean up (thank you to everyone who helped!) We had nonstop foot traffic for couple hours there and I saw tons of people carrying chickens out the doors all day long.  Thank you to everyone who participated, thank you to our businesses who had just as much fun and to Alexis and Jeanine...I love you guys and couldn't have done this without either of you!!!

Ok Jeanine...let's get the Spring Swap thread started   thumbsup

What a terrific swap!  You guys did such a good job putting this one together!  I am already looking forward to another one in the Spring. smile  I met so many nice people today, and had so much fun talking chickens with you all.  I came home with about a third of the birds I took....so that feels like a great swap to me.  And I found out that my buff laced polish rooster (Rasta) is super social and people friendly.  I knew he was easy to handle at home, but was pleasantly surprised by how well he took to meeting all the new people.  He even let a few babies grab his crest feathers. roll  (Not too hard though) I love the cool wire chicken basket I won, and especially the great soaps inside (Thanks K7:) ) I only brought home one new chicken this time....although I was really tempted by all the wonderful silkies!  The little sultan girl I brought home is settled in nicely at the moment.  She has been very calm and I love her little face.  All in all it was a great day.  Thanks to all of you great ladies who worked so hard to put this together for us all. thumbsup
