Oregon Summer Poultry Swap, Redmond, June 18th - Page 23

Lindy- Can you send me pictures of the AmyJo cockerels?

Weather forecast for Redmond for Saturday:
High 78
Clouds & sun; breezy; nice.

It has been sunny or partly sunny most days this past week.  We are definitely into 'summer'.  But not hot and not even sunny all day.. Should be perfect for the swap, though it could get breezy -- don't know how much wind protection there is at the park, possibly not much since it is a (presumably manmade) lake.

It's gonna be great! I just baked a gluten-free strawberry cake for the potluck (I have a two hour drive and didn't want to mess with food that might spoil) and it smells great! smile Tell us what we can chip in to pay for the hotdogs and if you spent any other money organizing this.

I always have nightmares before an event I've organized... 98% of the time, nothing bad happens! big_smile

This is so exciting!

We've got all our chicks that we're taking tagged up and ready to go. Everyone's had their Marek's vaccines except the little guys hatching today, and I'm not sure if we're bringing any of them or not. We probably will, and will just give them their Marek's tomorrow and be cutting it really close by swap time....

We are bringing several Dominique cockerels for eating birds - some of these guys are half grown already, and all our chicks are moved outside at about 3 weeks (with a heat lamp, don't worry!) and are primarily grass fed from there. They always have feed in front of them, but they love being out in the yard all day munching down. I don't use any pesticides/herbicides on my yard.

April 18th cockerels - $8ea
May 21st, June 3rd and June 7th cockerels - $3ea

The older guys are fine outside, the younger guys would still need a light on them. The Dominiques feather in really fast, forage extremely well and are just all around healthy happy birds. And they taste delicious!

We will also have lots of EEs (some purebred Americaunas mixed in there) straight run only, and Rhonda's son will be bringing some SR Japanese Bantams! So cute!

We also have a few "Walrus" chicks. These are a special mix, bred for vigor, size and growth (hence the nickname Walrus). They are beautiful blue barred, very stunning, sweet as can be and will make great dual purpose birds.

Heaven, what color Americaunas are you bringing?  Can't wait to see the walruses, are these a more recent hatch or the ones from a few weeks ago?

OK guys (ladies) .....  I have these 3 bantams, 12 weeks old this week, and I think they are all boys.   Do people want bantam rooster boys?  They are sweet and healthy and as cute as bugs, but I don't want to bring them if no one is interested.
1 cochin, partridge (beautiful rich browns)
               1 cochin, gold-laced
               1 mille fleur d-uccle
I just can't have roosters in town, and I would rather than pass them along to someone I know will take good care of them, than just stick an ad on craigslist.  Also, I don't want to be tied down all day with the boyos if no one is likely to want them.hu
What do you all think?

Starchix - rhonda talked to a gal that's wanting bantam Cochins... you might bring your bantam roosters just in case, I think you could sell them big_smile

We are bringing lots of black and blue Americaunas, a couple that are blue/blue wheaten I think, as well as some interesting pretty EEs, some splashes and blues, etc.

And we'll have Walruses that are almost 2mo old, pullets and cockerels big_smile We might have a few more recent ones too, if they get tossed in the for sale lot and brought. We are bringing lots of chickies! big_smile

My anxiety is getting pretty high. I hope we have enough people show up to buy everything. I've tried advertising but I have fallen behind a bit this last week, my health hasn't been very good (car accident a year ago) and this last week has been rough.

BUT I have had lots of ads on CL, have been putting flyers up and passing them out.... does anyone know the phone number for tradio?

Hey, a group email just went out to the 35 coop owners from this year's Bend Coop Tour, so a bunch more chicken lovers just found out about the swap.  Keep breathing now, it's going to be fun.  The first time is the hardest with anything.   Many people will be experienced, many will be early, most will be helpful and remember:  you don't have to do everything.

Now let me ask you, does one need signage?  If I bring my bantam chicks, do I need lots of signs?  Is the spot for the swap on grass or pavement?

Smile on,
Starchix

So much depends on the weather! Now NOAA is predicting rain and possibly gusting winds.

A 30 percent chance of showers after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 70. South wind 9 to 18 mph becoming northwest. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph

Flyers are up in Sweet Home and Brownsville. smile If the day is nice, people might wander into the park and see us, don't you think? Even if this first one is small, it'll be nice to meet you all and enjoy a potluck. I'm looking forward to it.
