Got Caught! - Page 3

See, this is just crazy.  Where I'm at, we have to have "at least 5 acres" for anything, but we CAN have a 100#-or-less 'house-pig' (can't be left outside overnight, nor have sheds, etc. for that purpose).  Our neighbor has 4 very large dogs that scream & bark CONSTANTLY, but I can't have a couple (or any) hens that won't make NEAR as much noise!  Oh oh!  And let's not forget that same neighbor's house, before he moved in, was overrun by 50+ feral cats (that had over 6 litters 2 springs ago) by the previous tenant- **the pound even came to pick up a 'sick cat' from her & SAW "over 20 cats in her house"** and no one did a dang thing!! (there's a 4 cat + 4 dog rule here, so she was still in extreme violation)

What's totally stupid is to have 5 acres in this city, you can't even live in this city!  There ARE no 5 acre lots, unless you buy up a whole neighborhood & clear it ;-) ... totally stupid.

Except our health dept (who by their own regs) say you can have chickens if you get a permit from them, they insist they don't/won't/& haven't ever given residents permits for chickens.

Have you considered asking a friend with property, or renting a place to keep your chickens on?!? I've heard of people who do that! I live on 1 acre in a very small farm community in utah and I have 49 chickens....that number some how keeps growing!hide

3 cats, 2 dogs, 15 fish, 1 frog and 28 hens, 3 roosters, 22 chicks and 2 Nubian goats, 1 nubian/oberhasli Buck, 1 Saanen Wether and 2 of the cutest little kiddlings.

I would fight it and tell them they are your GREEN food scrap compactor or your GREEN bug zappers and they should be giving you a tax break for all you're doing for the environment.  ya

I'm illegal too.  My town states I  must have 1/2 acre per bird.  So on my 1 acre lot in a very rural town, I could legally have 2 chickens (after a hearing for a permit, with my neighbors in attendance to give permission).  Needless to say, I said ***** that and I have 11 right now.
One day the county inspector showed up at my house and I almost had a heart attack.  My first thought was"not my babies" but some jack*** had reported our house for tax purposes because we had not listed our basement as partially finished, but unfinished.  People sometimes need to get a life.
If anyone tries to make me get rid of my birds they will have a horrible fight on their hands.

In my area you need 5 acres or you need to be brining in >$50000 in farm products per year to qualify for "right to farm" and without that right, you don't get to have any livestock.

I think you should keep your birds wherever you can--how can your neighbors complain if they can't see/hear them? You can always blame the tv or washing machine now!

In response to the ridiculous acreage requirements for the allowance of a few small birds...sometimes it seems that city/county/state governments have special relationships with food conglomerants which impact the rules and legislation in such a way as to make it very difficult to raise or grow our own food...its only getting worse FYI.
In any event, I'm going to rebel and do what I want to do with my property that I own and try really hard not to disturb my neighbors. If that makes me a lawbreaker then so be it--I don't like broad, illogical laws anyway. I'm really lucky though, because my city's police department is really lenient when it comes to enforcing the letter of the law...if your doing something terrible they'll get you, but something that doesn't affect others and isn't out of controll...they could care less. I doubt they'll care about a few ducks and chickens in my backyard when they have some major gang problems to look after.

I have a good husband, a new baby boy, a few ducks, one beautiful goose and a big family. Life is pretty good.

I didn't even ask here. I can go outside and here crowing all over town, so I thought I would get me some chickens. I wanted hens, but got 5 roosters out of 8 str8 runs. Now I don't have to go outside to hear crowing.lol

I wish I lived next to you!!! Everytime I go outside to greet the ladies I tell them shush at their greeting and feel like a big bully. My next door neighbors a snoop. She has been asking for the past week "do you have chickens I swear I hear chickens" and I told her " Kathy I dont know what youre talking about hun" with a big S*** eating grin. (I cant lie worth a ****)

I wish It wasnt so. Its a way of life for me. Grew up with them, I love them. They are fun. Ive been teaching my nephews about them since I brought them home.

I am "big time Illegal" chicken keeper. That doesnt want to get caught.fl.gif They said okay in tampa fl. its like 30Miles away from me or so, but here where I am, its a no. Plain and simple. Doesnt help I live in a small yard. But to be honest I used to breed finches and parakeets. They are WAY noiser than My Girls and I kept the birds in the sun room and could still hear them through the windows (closed) and walls. Once they got started they didnt want to stop. roll.png

The ladies dont smell either I smell dog poop from the side neighbors yard all the time. barnie.gif

They should have a community for chicken fans. Like they do for nudists!!  lau.gif
