Just curious what everyone's experiences are with their personality - I have 2 that are 3 days old, and they are staying with 4 other chicks that are 2 wks (BO) and 1 wk (EE) - to my surprise at least one of these little guys keeps running around pecking at everyone and trying to be the boss of everything. Is this typical for the breed or is it just that I picked out the bully of the group?

It is typical for the breed when from hatchery stock that they are bullies or not the friendliest around, although I hear they're supposed to be better in smaller groups. I got 10 hens one time, - never getting them from a hatchery again. Horrible birds. They were hardy and good layers, but they weren't friendly to me, could care less for other breeds because "they were above them" and even in their own clique, they didn't always like each other.

I hear good things about heritage and/or show bred ones though. And they certainly are beautiful!

I have 6 - 10 wk old chicks (various breeds) and 3 SL Wynadottes (5 weeks). The 6 make up one group and the 3 make up another group, they don't really socialize with each other but they all share the same coop without fighting. They all free range during the day and have the favorite spots.
But here is the kicker, I have 2 khaki campbell ducks that are the same age as the SLW and they are part of their group. Where the chicks go, the ducks follow and vice versa.
All my chickens act the same towards me while free ranging except one of my SLW, she got hurt a week ago and I had to take her in for a couple of days, she will now eat out of my hand were the others won't.

Oh and they are very flighty too. I ended up putting a wire screen over the tote (brooder box) because they kept getting out (none of my first chicks did this).

Unfortunately, I think it's pretty typical of hatchery wyandottes. My SLW is the only wyandotte in a mixed flock and she's the only one that doesn't have any damaged feathers. I never see her picking on anyone else, and I have actually seen one of the other girls (the one missing the least feathers) take a peck at her, but the fact that all of her feathers are intact tells me that she's the picker. I would have gotten rid of her weeks ago, but she is a good layer and I am reluctant to loose one of my best layers when I have several hens who are not very good layers.

Ok, first off-we have show quality SLW from a know breeder and LOVE THEM! My 11yo is taking them both to our county fair this year and plans to do showmanship with the roo. If you have a bully..might not be the breed, just the bird.

I too have a major pecker. LOL all of my girls are naked on their rears except her. I've separated her, and tried to reintroduce her. She is the friendliest bird to me, but won't leave the other girls alone. Not sure what Im going to do with her yet? What did you end up doing with your bad girl?

I only have one, and she is from a breeder. Never even close to the top of the pecking order, but not bullied either. She started out wild, but has tamed down really well. She is VERY quiet and easy going. At one point she was having some sort of PMS stage and did go pecking everyone in sight, but it didn't last long at all. She was probably 3 1/2 months old at the time of that. She would run as fast as she could at the others and flare her hackles. If you would have asked me two months ago, I would have said they are crazy. Mine is very friendly and sweet now.

I have a pair mixed in a large flock. The flock includes Australorp, CW, Cochins, Delaware, RIR, NH and a few SexLinks.
They have been raised from a hatchery purchase at Atwoods. Both are intgrated nicely in the flock and have had no issues. She is a great layer and has tried to go broodie on me twice. The roo is the third in the pecki9ng order. I have separated them for AI to increase the number ofSLW and fertile eggs hatched.
I like the breed.

I have 5 SL Wyandottes. Four from a top-notch breeder and one from Ideal Poultry.

All of mine are mild mannered - not at the bottom of the flock, but not at the top either.

They have become my favorite breed. I'm building my flock up over the next year.

We have 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes that we took in as a favor (another chicken Mom ordered 5 and got 12...only had room for 5)! We have dubbed them Heckle and Jeckle because they are side by side...always...roosting, napping in their box, strolling outside...they are always side by side. If you do separate them, Jeckle starts this forlorn drawn out peep until you put them back together. We got Silkies last year and they seemed much rowdier; I'm not sure, if it is because there were 5 and only two of these guys. The Silkies are only mildly interested in the new chicks. I guess we'll see what happens!
