And it's like you said, when you want a certain breed, what can ya do?  Ya gotta go with shipped eggs sometimes.

I just ordered 2 dozen eggs of assorted purebreds from Lund Poultry, trying like the dickens to get WFBS.  I've been in touch with them & they know I especially would love some of them, but all their birds are really nice quality.

You can meet a lot of people on here who might have breeds you want, and they could be within an hour or so driving distance from your house.  When you're looking for something in particular, it never hurts to ask.  Could spare ya the heartache of having to deal with shipped eggs that never hatch.

I don't know where Somerset is but there is a breeder in Newman California that has White Faced Black Spanish. I drove over there last week & bought a started pair of Black Minorcas from her & she is going to get me a couple more pullets. She has the nicest set up I have ever seen. Her birds are sooooooo lucky. If I didn't hink I would put my husband into cardiac arrest I would tell him I want to redo everything & be like hers......LOL.
She has many different breeds too.
Salmon Favorelles
Shamos
BFBS
Black Minorcas
Light Sussex
Russian Orloffs
Ameraucanas
and I can't remember what all else....LOL.
I was so impressed & she is so nice. I love talking chicken to others that actually like to & are not just tolerating me.....LOL
  You are so right I have connected with many semi locals here & traded eggs. Thats how I got my White Rocks & I hatched out 13 chicks.

I just put my add on Craigslist. $2.00 each. It pays for the feed plus we like to watch them hatch. They are mixed but people don't care. Out of the 50+ babies that should hatch this week I am only keeping 12. I bought 1 doz Buff Polish hatching eggs and ALL 12 are right on track. This was my 1st time with shipped eggs and I lucked out.
Kinda a bummer that we won't be able to watch the action on Wednesday. We are talking my daughter to Shriners Hospital Wed morning. She has some leg issues we are trying to work out.

What fun Sarah,
  I let my Silkies hatch their own & they do such a good job of it. I have 3 hens & a roosters & all 3 hens lay together in one nestbox & then brood it together too. It is hilarious to see them all piled on top of each other in there. I use 5 gallon PVC buckets for nest boxes & the 3 of them are one big ball of white fur with faces poking out. When they brood they hatch eggs out over about a week or so. Everyday once they start I check for new chicks & bring them into the brooder in the house. We lost the whole clutch when I left them out there during the winter then the last hatch the babies were wondering ( they are so tiny) & being killed by the bigger birds. I don't need to keep them anymore but can't give them up.....LOL I have 14 babies in the brooder so far from this hatch.

I am looking for Yokohamas around here. Does anyone know of any??? Out of 14 shipped eggs only one hatched. The rest were all clear. What a bummer of a hatch. The breeder says the Xray machine at the P.O. kills the eggs???????

Hi Karen, I'm flying to Washington in a couple of weeks and wanted to take some eggs along onboard the plane. I've been reading posts that say the X-ray maching at the airport kills the fertile eggs too! roll

Don't get me started on the PO. We used to have an AWESOME postman.  He would bring my eggs all the way up the bumpy driveway to the house.  But 2 months ago the PO reorganized, and now I am having to worst luck.  I can't help thinking that possibly most of the rough handling comes from my delivery DRIVER!

ANYWAY,  I can't think of anyone with Yokohamas.

~~~~~8 Toulouse goslings available.  2-4 days old. ~~~~~
(This flock includes a Sebastopol gander also, but the babies appear straight Toulouse.)
$10 each. Quantity discounts.  Pm me if you are interested.
Can arrange pick-up in Placerville, Sacramento, or any place in between.
My pot lady is great she honks her horn & waits for us to come out to her to hand off my eggs or if we don't appear she stops & walks them up & puts them inside the glassed in frontporch for me. I had to fill out a form to give her permission to do that though.
Sew&Grow- I want your post lady.  I think our new postman plays soccer with the packages.  I have never had broken eggs like this before!
Hi everyone, I'm in Oakdale. I have a little flock of Barnevelders and some Bantam Cochins.  I just hatched some lemon blue cochins from shipped eggs, I'm so in love with them. love  Whats so great about the bantam size is it takes 4 of them to equal one large bird.  Well that's what I try to get my husband to believe lol
I'm setting 10ish Barnevelder eggs tomorrow and 4 bantam cochins,  All but one of my cochins are broody right now or happy momma's. I love this time of year.
Bantam Cochins & Silkies,
     Facebook
I raise bantam cochins in brown red, lemon blue, lemon blue frizzle. Silkies, black, white, buff.
