Embdens are probably the biggest of the ones you received, they easily get to 20 pounds or more. Toulouse are not much smaller though.

My best broody is a Toulouse. I've been pleased with my Pilgrim girl, as well as Africans and Chinese in the past, and Emdens are good (except the head female of the flock whom I've nicknamed "The Playgirl" ... She breeds OFTEN and deposits eggs here and there, messing up everyone else's nest, and seems to be leaving breeding season behind without more than a few six-hour stretches of brooding.

It's her fault my poor Toulouse has been sitting on eggs for a LONG time now, trying to cover them all and as a result, losing them all. There were over 30 eggs under her. I just today gave her 11 freshly laid from The Playgirl. We'll see if she has the stamina to see it through or if I will even let her. She does stand and stretch, and I have given her water and food in her nesting cage (I converted 1/3 of the coop for her so The Playgirl will leave her alone). Hopefully I will get my hands on an incubator asap in case I need to finish them. But that poor goose DESERVES some babies.

She's very steadfast, and the best broody goose I've ever had, except I must say that I'm surprised she has let me remove her eggs for candling and disposal, and let me replace them today, with just a bit of complaining and only one minor nip.

I still think she's the best broody.

Toulouse x Emden are supposed to make a nice heavy meat cross too.

Thanks so much!! I was hoping my Toulouse would be a good candidate. She is just a trip. They all look like boats with legs--silly birds. DD told me today that she had thought I was nuts to order geese but is glad I did because she likes them better than the ducks and chickens combined.
